Drive Smart Kentucky Program/O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series at Bluegrass Speedway for 8th Annual Kentuckiana Klash on July 8

Bardstown, KY-July 2, 2006- Bluegrass Speedway will host a very special day and night of racing activities when the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar rolls into the ½ mile high-banked clay oval on Saturday, July 8, for the 40 lap, $5,000 to win 8th Kentuckiana Klash, with series sponsor Drive Smart Kentucky also in attendance with special demonstrations and programs.

The July 8 event will see the drivers and teams of the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series in a full program of hot laps, Racing Optics time trials, Mason Racin' and Arizona Sport Shirts qualifying heats, Design 500 B-Mains, and the 40 lap, $5,000 to win 8th Annual Kentuckiana Klash O'Reilly A-Main. Also on the racing docket to provide support division action will be the Modified and Sportsman divisions, with the Street Stocks having the night off. The Late Model and Sportsman division will take time trials, while the Modified division will use the pill draw format to determine heat race starting assignements. Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would be the winner of the 2005 version of the Kentuckiana Klash. This event will also mark the celebration of the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series 100th sanctioned racing event. The series ran its first event in May of 2002 in Glasgow, KY and the Lexington, KY based organization that sanctions Dirt Late Model racing throughout Kentucky and Indiana will be celebrating the series 100th racing program at the 8th Annual Kentuckiana Klash event on this evening.

As an added attraction for race fans and teams, the Drive Smart Kentucky Program will also be in attendance at Bluegrass Speedway on July 8. The Drive Smart program began in January of 1997 as a statewide effort by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to reduce the high crash, injury, and fatality rates in Kentucky by using the "4 E's" of highway safety: education, engineering, enforcement, and emergency response. The Drive Smart program will have its rollover simulator in attendance for demonstrations and "crash dummies" Vince and Larry, along with Buckle Up Bear, will also be in attendance to entertain the young and old alike. Drive Smart will also have an information booth and tent set up that will provide information about the Drive Smart Kentucky program, along with giveaways such as Drive Smart wristbands, Buckle Up keychains, reflectors for kids to put on their bikes or clothing, pencils, and other assorted merchandise. There will also be some Drive Smart program T-shirts that will be donated and given away during intermission at the 50/50 ticket drawing. Drive Smart will also be setting up some of their radar trailers along the roadways to let race teams and race fans be aware of their when arriving to the race and when leaving the events for the evening.

Activities for this highly anticipated July 8 event at Bluegrass Speedway will see pit and main gates open at 4:00. The drivers meetings will be at 6:00, hot laps at 6:30, time trials around 7:00, with racing getting the green for the evening at or before 8:00. All times listed are EDT. This is a special event. Adult general admission will be $20, children ages 6 to 12 are $10, children under age 6 are free, and pit passes will be $35.

Bluegrass Speedway is also an associate member of the prestigious Contingency Connection Program for 2006, with drivers that are signed up for the program eligible for a part of the over $100,000 in product gift certificates and other prizes. CC program winners at Bluegrass Speedway for July 1 were Rocky Wilson of Hodgenville, KY in Modifieds and Roger Cecil of Bardstown, KY in Sportsman.

Bluegrass Speedway last raced on July 1 and feature winners that evening included Jason Keltner of Campbellsville, KY in Late Models, Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY in Modifieds, Barry Chesser of Bloomfield, KY in Sportsman, and Avral Thompson of Loretto, KY in Street Stocks.

Current track championship division point leaders heading into this weekend's July 8 racing event are Jason Keltner of Campbellsville, KY in Late Models, Robbie Gullion of Charlestown, IN in Modifieds, Bobby Mattingly of Bardstown, KY in Sportsman, and Avral Thompson in Street Stocks.

Bluegrass Speedway is located at 2221 New Haven at the intersection of KY Highway 31E and exit 21 of the Martha Layne Collins Parkway. The track is owned by Charles Hamilton. David and Anita Ferrell are the track promoters and present dirt track sports entertainment on Saturday nights from mid-April through September in a family-oriented environment for all ages.
