Once again Springfield Raceway has separated themselves from all other facilities by hosting a groundbreaking event on Thanksgiving weekend. The 1st Annual "Turkey Night Open Wheel Classic" will take place on Saturday November 24th on Springfield's challenging ¼ mile high bank oval.

Race fans will be treated to three divisions of open wheel cars, with Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars, Ozark Mtn. Midgets and Modifieds. Some of the biggest names in Sprint Car racing have announced their intentions to attend the Open Wheel Classic. 3 time World of Outlaw Champion and International Race of Champions (IROC) winner, Danny "the DUDE" Lasoski will be shooting to take home the inaugural turkey night trophy. Lasoski will not have any easy time with top regional standouts Jesse "the Rocket" Hockett, Terry Gray, Brian Brown and 3 time ASCS Champion Tim Crawley, just to name a few.

"I have wanted to host a race on Thanksgiving weekend for a long time", said Raceway co-owner Doug Bland. "We are thrilled with the response from the drivers coming to the event and if we get weather above 40 degrees, this race could be the biggest crowd all season". Promoters normally close area tracks down in mid October and don't re-open them until spring but Bland and his partner Jerry Hoffman think it will not be much of a disadvantage for them. "If sports fans can sit in the stands at Chiefs Stadium in colder temperatures watching a football game, there is no reason they will not sit in our grandstands to watch some of the biggest names in Sprint Car Racing.

The Turkey Night Open Wheel Classic will take place on Saturday November 24th. Pit gates will open at noon with spectator gates opening at 2pm and the first heat race hits the track at 4pm. Grandstand tickets will be $15 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 with 5 and under free. The Raceway concession stand will have a full supply of hot chocolate and bowls of Turkey Chili to keep you warm. This race will take place even with colder weather; the only way the event will be canceled is due to rain or snow!
