New Crate Engine Regional Fastrak Late Model Series 2005

Fastrak Champions Midwest Regional Touring Series

Who we are:

We are in negotiations with the Fastrak Champions Series to bring a Regional Touring Series to the St. Louis area. We will be the Fastrak Champions Midwest Region. Our goal is to keep all races within a 150-mile radius of St. Louis, Missouri. Fastrak runs a full blown Late Model chassis with a choice of three engine packages ranging from $2895 to $5400. All three versions of the engines are sealed from the factory. Clip cars are also allowed to compete and have done so very competitively in the Southern Region. With only one repeat winner last year, and that only resulting from 2 DNF’s in front of him it, seems as if the Fastrak method is working very well.

What we are proposing:

We are proposing to run fifteen points races paying a minimum of $1200 to win and $100 to start. We will race under the complete Fastrak rule guidelines. Fastrak Corporate has also agreed to furnish a $10,000 Points Fund and a $50,000 Contingency Fund. The points fund will, of course, be paid at the banquet at the end of the year with the $50,000 Contingency Fund being paid on a race by race basis for the “Hard Charger” award and another for the “Tough Luck” award for each event. In 2005, we will not be eligible for the “National” Points Fund, but we will be included in the 2006 season. The 2006 “National” Points Fund is projected to be $100,000 plus the Contingency Fund. The Midwest Region in 2005 will, however, be eligible to run the four $5000 to win “National” events that pay $250 to start.

What we need from you:

We need teams who would be interested in committing to run for the Midwest Regional Points. Please send us your contact information, (name, phone number, car number, mailing address, and email address). We need this information, as we are in the process of preparing our proposals for the area tracks, and need to know how many cars the Track Promoters can expect to attend.

What is required?

We require everyone who wants to run for the Regional Points Fund to pay a $500 Membership fee to the National organization. In return you will receive you first set of series spec tires free of charge. Tires run roughly $120.00 each so, in essence, you are only paying $20.00 for you Membership fee. There will be a minimum of $65.00 entry fee at all events. Part of the entry fee goes to the National organization in their efforts of training technical people, advertising, and promotional support. The remaining portion goes towards helping to pay the race officials. All race results will be turned into the National organization by Tuesday of each week, and the points will be updated no later than Thursday of that week.

Engines, Choice of Three:

GM 602 (355 HP) at 2300 lbs, $2895.00

GM 304 (410 HP) at 2400 lbs. $4895.00

Fastrak Crate (430 HP at 2450 lbs.) $5000.00 plus an optional 5140 crank and/or stud girdles.

There is also a swap policy in effect via corporate $1500 for 602 $2000 for 604 and Fastrak crate. There are also engine builders in place for the series making the turn around a matter of days.

Common Sense:

We are trying to put the fun and prestige back into racing. Why do we race? To win! No one likes follow the leader racing and the “money” teams always out front. Fastrak eliminated being outspent in the engine department. Let’s put Late Model racing back into the drivers hands and give the fans a show that can be excited about.

Winternationals Press Release

OGLETHORPE SPEEDWAY HEATS UP FEBRUARY RACING ACTION
By Katherine Adams

(Pooler, GA) Oglethorpe Speedway Park’s half mile clay speedway has been a part of the lead-in to Florida speedweeks for the past half decade. This February will be no different as the state-of-the-art facility welcomes hundreds of racers on their annual trek south to the sunshine state for winter racing.
This year’s edition of the Winternationals will feature the Fastrak Champions Late Model Series and their GM Performance crate engine powered racers. The combination of the Fastrak Series and OSP’s weekly late model competition running the GM Performance crate engine should make for a competitive weekend of racing.
“The Showdown on the Coast produced fifty-two race cars competing at OSP in the crate engine class,” said track vice president Andy Stone. “We have been behind the crate engine program for over two years. We believed in the program before it really was even noticed in the southeast. We are just really happy to see the program develop. It is needed to keep short track racing affordable. It is also a stepping stone for drivers wanting to eventually move into Super Late Models.”
Oglethorpe Speedway Park is also hosting the Coca-Cola Young Guns Shoot-Out the same weekend. Drivers ages eighteen and younger will have the opportunity to battle it out on the Georgia red clay for bragging rights and a top prize of $2,000. All competitors are invited to race the special event for the new generation of drivers.
“Any driver of a late model is eligible to compete,” explained Stone. “Super Late Model, Limited Late Model, National Late Model or Crate Late Model, all are invited to compete at this special event.”
The Fastrak Late Models will compete on Friday and Saturday night in a two complete nights of racing. Each night will have qualifying, heat races, “B” Main and an “A” Main for the crate late model racers. The Coca-Cola Young Guns Shoot-Out will take place only on Saturday night and if the driver is using a crate engine, they may compete in both the Shoot-Out and the Fastrak Series race.
“National media has contacted the speedway inquiring about coverage of the event,” added Stone. “Stories are being created about the next generation of drivers and where they are coming from in the world of auto racing. It amazes me more everyday.”
Joining the Fastrak Late Models and the Young Guns Shoot-Out will be the Super Street Stock Cars, Mini Stocks and 440 Series. All divisions will run on features on both nights. Drivers will draw for position and race in the supporting classes with the Super Streets paying $750 to win each night, the Mini Stocks $300 to win each night and the 440 Series receiving trophies.
There is no entry fee for the Super Streets, Mini Stocks or 440 Series. The entry fee for the Fastrak Late Models and Young Guns Shoot-Out is $65. Entry forms are available by calling 912-964-8200 or on line at www.ospracing.net.

Kevin where can these motors be bought,,what all needs to be added to motor to be complete? ,are there any rules on the carbs,,what fuel do they use and so on!!

If you guys want to get this done please let them know. Not trying to be pushy here but 2005 is coming in a hurry and there is a lot of work to be done.

I hope to see you all in 2005 with Fastrak Mid West Region!!!!!!!!!!!

What happens if there isn't enough interest from tracks to book the series? What becomes of the racers who have made a major investment in upgrading their equipment? I like the idea of what you're doing, don't get me wrong, but it would appear to me that without any announced tracks, this would be a hard sell. Good luck. If this takes off, it could replace the modifieds as the stepping stone into Super Late Models.

Tracks

When we get enough drivers to express an interest in running this series we will send out the proposals to the area tracks. We already have had one track to contact us.

Interested Teams

We appreciate any team that expresses an interest. We would not expect anyone to buy anything at this time. We just need enough teams to show the tracks that we are the real deal. This will work in our area if we can get everyone in the same boat and paddling in the same direction.

You guys are coming along great out there! I understand you are up to 15 drivers and have 2 tracks lined up with others on the fence. That is super!

Our Southern Series started with 5 cars their 1st race. Had 17 the 2nd race and 51 cars the final race of the season. Once people see these cars on the track, they are hooked. All the fears go away when they realize these are just LM cars racing around the track only more exciting than they are used to.

Doc

TaG Karting

I just wanted to bring up the point that karting around the county had a new class the last two years. It was a low matence TaG 125cc motor. The other classes costed a ton of money to run up front because of the fact the had to rebuild there motors all the time and change parts more often. At our track www.SLKA.net we have grown to two classes of TaG 125cc of an average of 17 racers or so. Also, TaG 60cc and TaG 125cc Jr. also had 7 or so racers. This class just two years ago had nothing. In just two years it has grown to be the biggest class and the most competitve. The reason it is the most competitive is because all the motors are so equal which makes racing so much better. All these motors are bought right off the shelf and no modifications are to be made to them. They are atempting to try this with the new 125cc Stock Shifter class which i imagine will have the same affect. I think the Fastrak series is the same concept and in a short period of time will grow to be the funnest and most competitive class to watch. J/M/O
