New Season Off to Great Start At West Plains Motor Speedway

Best Western Grand Villa of West Plains, MO, sponsored the first points race of the 2005 season at West Plains Motor Speedway. A good field of nearly 80 anxious, excited drivers took to the red clay oval Saturday, April 2, as temperatures dipped into the 40's before events concluded at 10:30 pm.

Chris Piper of West Plains, started 12th in the IMCA Modified feature and worked his way to the lead spot by lap-17 taking the lead from Brandon Ball, also of West Plains, and held on to take the checkered flag. Ball finished second with Billy Romans, another hometown driver, finishing third. Shawn Walsh of Ash Flat, AR, took fourth with Rustin Miller of Houston, rounding out the top five.
Balance of the field included Carmon Vincent of Moody, MO, John Mostrom of Flippin, AR, Trent Cockrum of West Plains, Phillip Murphy of Ravenden, AR, Bryan McKee of Mtn. Home, AR, Scott Crigler of Alton, MO, Marty Toten of Pomona, MO, Kelly Marsh of Willow Spring, MO, Jimmie Leonard of Ravenden, AR, Brian Judd of Caulfield, MO, Kevin Collins of West Plains, Richard Smith of Williford, AR, Lonnie Judd of Caulfield, MO, Al Bernal of Myrtle, MO, Jerry Croney, Bill Adams and Calvin Tribble, all of West Plains.

Stan Ellison of West Plains, was the 2004 Super Stock Track Champion and he held off the field at the first points race of the season to score his first feature win of 2005. Rounding out the top five were: Dee Kelly and Todd Kelly, both of Birch Tree, MO, Bill Dixon of Thayer, MO and Aaron Dicks of Gassville, AR.
Balance of the field taking the green included: Darren Fox of Vanzant, MO, Jeff North of Rogersville, MO and Fred Elliott of Lamar, CO.

Tyson Troutman of Houston, MO, took the lead on the first lap of the Hobby feature and never looked back leading the full 20 laps over a field of 21 cars. While positions shifted throughout the field those rounding out the top five included Bobby Bryant, Chuck Russell and Dexter Frost, all of West Plains, along with Rick Cooper of Thornfield, MO.
Balance of the field included Toby Goodwin of Ash Flat, AR, Dave Wallace of Theodosia, MO, Randy Dennison of West Plains, Bobby Ratterree of Mtn. Grove, MO, Joe Davenport of Summit, AR, Brian Ratliff of Hardy, AR, Willy Walker and Darren Rust, both of Houston, MO, Allen Hatch of West Plains, Chris Ratterree of Mtn. Grove, MO, Dean Smith of Mammoth Spring, AR, Wayne DeGase of Squires, MO, Kyle Freyermuth and Bill Martin, both of Mammoth Spring, AR, Chris Junkersfeld of Warm Springs, AR, and John Van Horn of Mtn. View, MO.

The Cruiser feature winner was Scott North of Willow Springs, MO, followed by Shane Hill of Birch Tree, MO, Chris Skinner of Moody, MO, Andrew Harden of West Plains and Rocky Bowlin of Houston, MO.
Balance of the field in order were: Bill Harden, Donald Collins, Dudley Collins, all of West Plains, Bobby Skinner of Moody, MO, Clint Seamans of Imboden, AR, Jeff Collins and Dale Chaney, both of Birch Tree, MO.

Patrick Reed of Mtn. View, MO, scored his first Front Wheel Drive feature win, followed by Brad Sanders and Jerry Doane, both of West Plains, David Lute of Ash Flat, AR, and David England of Williford, AR.
Balance of the field making it to the feature included Robert Jamison of West Plains, David Elms of Paragould, AR and Thelma Carter of Mtn. Home, AR.

Five young men in the 13-15 age group ran the Youth Hobby Stock feature with Ben Ledgerwood of Birch Tree, MO, taking the win, followed by Zach Hurtt of Mtn. Grove, MO, Anthony Carnal of Cabool, MO, Eric Butler of Moody, MO, and Rowdy Trivitt of Williford, AR.

Next Saturday night, April 9, will mark the first 2005 appearance of the Dirt Motorsports MARS Divison of super late models, plus a full weekly points program. Gates will open at 5 pm, with hotlaps at 6:30 and racing at 7 pm. Adult admission will be $15, kids 7-11 $5, and those 6 & under are always free at West Plains Motor Speedway.
