O’Reilly MLRA
Dirt Late Model Touring Series

By: Kevin Fletcher

The Thunder is almost Ready to Rumble once again as the O’Reilly MLRA will start it’s 14 year of Dirt Late Model Racing. A top rated series by everyone, the O’Reilly MLRA will again be seen by fans in the Midwest and beyond, with a working schedule being released to the fans and drivers they can expect to see additional dates within the next few weeks. There are a few other tracks that have noted they too, want a date but are working on their scheduling and are booking for possible later dates.

The O’Reilly MLRA will start their trademark style of racing in S. Coffeyville, Oklahoma and move through the summer in high gear. This season will include some new tracks for the fans and drivers; it also will include more co-sanctioned events. Many with the O’Reilly NCRA another top rated and respected series. That will guarantee even larger car counts for the O’Reilly MLRA series that averages a field of mid 30’s everywhere they go. Some of the new stops for 2003 will be at either brand new facilities or at tracks that have not seen the O’Reilly MLRA for a few years, so they’re will be a whole new base of fans that will get to see the stars of the Midwest in action live, rather than reading about them in the newspapers.

From S. Coffeyville, Oklahoma they will head North for a visit at the Winston Speedway once again. One of the tracks that almost cut short last seasons Champion Alan “The Wild Child” Vaughn’s hopes of a good run for the points. As he demolished a car there in his heat flipping it 2 times then thrashed in the pits getting it back together for the A Feature. To everyone amazement he showed strength in his return of a battered racer. After that will be even further North to the state of Nebraska for some good Hot Soup. It will be the annual Vegetable Soup race one that combines just about every series and mixes them up for a hot night of action. It’s called that because of the different letters representing all the racing series invited in the race. That will be at Nebraska Raceway Park in Greenwood Nebraska.

From there it’s to the state of Kansas for some “Thunder” in Oz Country, the first night will be at the 81 Speedway in Wichita, Ks. Then the next evening the stars will travel to Salina, Ks. For some fast laps around their high banked oval. These two tracks are in for a treat with many of the O’Reilly MLRA Drivers never being in the area. Dropping south a state will be a race with the Outlaw next. Our first ever visit to the newest addition in Racing. The Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma where 3 tracks adjoins each other. The O’Reilly MLRA will be on the outside track at speeds of 100mph on the new surface. The next evening it’s back closer to home with a night of serious racers at the Wheatland Raceway in Wheatland, Mo.

Independence weekend we will celebrate twice with specials planned both nights at Outlaw Motor Speedway the 3rd and 4th and then at Joplin 66 Speedway in Joplin, Missouri for 2 nights of full throttle action on the 5th and 6th.As the season comes closer to the half way mark it will be back North again ,first at the Mid- Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan, Nebraska then the Thunder really Rumbles! Its gonna be a Rocky Mountain High, as we visit the Rocky Mountain National Speedway in Commerce City Colorado. It will be back down to Kansas as we roll in to the “Race Place” called the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt Kansas. It’s always a handful for the drivers keeping their cars on the racetrack that surprises all.

Winston and Wheatland are the next two nights on the tour, then in September it’s sliding sideways at unreal speeds as the Drivers challenge the Adrian Speedway in Adrian, Missouri. A short run and gun place that puts the fans on the edge not to mention the Drivers. On the edge and in control is the next weekend’s excitement at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City Ks. Where the cars always seem to run at their best. Lakeside is a Talent needed, place to drive with one of the fastest surfaces in the area. This is also NASCAR weekend and it’s always a surprise to see who will drop in and strap in for some fun or just to sign a few autographs.

The season will end the same place it starts, at the Mid America Motor Speedway as usual. It’s the perfect place to finish the points as the last couple of seasons it has came down to this track to determine a winner. Also this year is several other events that are being planned to get the fans and the drivers a chance to get to know each other more than by a number on the track. The O’Reilly MLRA prides itself in being one of the best racing series to have ever started, and appreciates the support of everyone behind them. We are looking forward to 2003 and hope to see everyone that appreciates good racing and enjoys the serious “Thunder” of the O’Reilly MLRA.
