O'Reilly MLRA Awards Banquet Recap

This last weekend the Argosy Casino played host to the O'Reilly MLRA's Championship Awards Banquet. It all started for the evening with a casual social hour, immediately following was an extravagant assortment of fine foods and desserts deliciously prepared. Series Racing Announcer and Media Relations representative, Kevin Fletcher was given the honors of making the nights presentations. Knowing the're was tables full of Awards, Plaques, Jackets, Trophies and Door Prizes to be given out, Fletcher wasted no time getting the show going.

Before the attention was completely drawn to the Drivers, Fletcher welcomed the crowd to the "Newest Newlyweds" in the audience. Mr. & Mrs. Jason Bodenhamer celebrating 2 weeks of their lifetime. Jason a Regular with the O'Reilly MLRA series and Jackie his wife is also a member of the team, taking the Racing pictures for the O'Reilly MLRA.

There was many tables full of guests associated with the O'Reilly MLRA including series Sponsors, Kevin Greven (O'Reilly Auto Parts), Gene Smith (Hoosier Racing Tires), Larry Shaw (Larry Shaw Racing Chassis), Doug Buzzard (Buzzard Racing Engines), Park Jones (Hatfield Racing Engines), Jason Bodenhamer (Bodees Race Bodies) along with the Sponsors was area Media Representees Curt Elliot, Scott Traylor (810 Radio, www.theracinboys.com), Ron Hawkins, J.D. Green (Central Auto Racing Boosters, CARB) also attending was Dave Freuer of the O'Reilly NCRA.

When it became Presentation time there was carpet from the tables to the stage starting to show it's wear after the night, especially from Brandon McCormick and Alan Vaughn's tables. McCormick was the first Honored for the Special Awards. The Rookie of the Year proved very rewarding as he came away with several prizes and contingencies along with his share of the Points money. He was presented with enough parts to assist many teams for the following season including Discounts for Chassis, Wheels, Engine Parts, Bodies, Springs, Shocks, Fuel Cells and much more.

Alan Vaughn would receive the same treatment as the Season Champion but with a much more bigger piece of the pie from the Drivers Points Fund. He too got a generous share of the series contingencies to help his 2003 season. As Vaughn took the center stage he was completely in control just like on the race track, all ears and eyes was on Vaughn as he talked about his quest to come to the top once again. He noted it was an on again, off again year but when the time was right it was complete balance that helped him get to the top.

Vaughn also spoke highly of his fellow racers noting they was part of the reason he was on stage for the night. The competition was the fiercest he has ever seen, especially from Al Purkey the runner up in points. He thanked Al for racing clean and challenging all season long. After thanking everyone he too wanted to make some special presentations, Drawing from a large box he pulled out several Custom Plaques that he presented to those that was a special part of his team.

There was several others awarded for the evening including Larry Clawson the runner up for "Rookie of the Year." Joe Conway , Shane Essary, Richard Foster, David Turner, and Jason Bodenhamer. They're awards included their points fund moneys and contingencies as well as bonus awards from Larry Shaw of Shaw Racing Chassis going to Joe Conway, Brandon McCormick, Al Purkey, and Alan Vaughn.

There was also another bonus offered from Doug Buzzard of Buzzard Racing Engines he rewarded Brandon McCormick with a Custom set of Valve Covers then he took the top 10 Drivers names and had a drawing for 5 prizes ranging from $200.00 to $1000.00 Jason Bodenhamer would be the top prize winner getting the big certificate.

The evening was a great success thanks to everyone associated with the O'Reilly MLRA as the evening came to a close, Series Owners Harriet and Alan "Cowboy" Chancellor finally took to the microphone but it was to thank everyone for being a part of the O'Reilly MLRA, not wanting to miss anyone that evening they then presented their officials with gifts also, showing their gratification to their loyalty.
2003 is around the corner we would like to invite everyone to become a part of the racing family of friends with the O'Reilly MLRA.
