O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series 12th Annual Pete Abell Memorial July 13 at Pond

Junction City, KY-July 8, 2007- After being closed last week for the Lincoln County Fair, Ponderosa Speedway returns to action this Friday evening July 13 with the running of the 12th Annual Pete Abell Memorial for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series at the 3/8 mile D-shaped clay oval located on the Boyle/Lincoln County border just off of Phillips Lane.

The July 13 racing program will feature an action packed evening of hot laps, Racing Optics time trials, Mason Racin' and Arizona Sport Shirts qualifying heats, and Design 500 B-Mains, with the highlight of the evening being the 40 lap, $3,000 to win 12th Annual Pete Abell Memorial Super Late Model A-main. Also as part of the July 13 Pete Abell Memorial racing activities at Ponderosa Speedway will be a full program of weekly racing series action for the Kentucky National Guard StormPay Crate Late Models, Hardee's Modifieds, SkyTower Power Race Engine Sportsman, and Clayton Homes Chevettes. The Super Late Model, Crate Late Model, and Modified divisions will time trial, with the Sportsman and Chevette divisions pill drawing for heat race starting assignments. It will also be double track points for all divisions at his July 13 event.

The Pete Abell Memorial event is contested in memory of the former Central Kentucky racer who lost his life in an automobile accident after an evening of racing at "The Pond". Darrell Lanigan was the inaugural event winner in 1995, with C.J. Rayburn scoring the race win in 1996. Lanigan would repeat in 1997, with Don O'Neal taking the win in 1998. Scott James would claim the victory in 1999, with Timmy Yeager taking the win in 2000. Mike Jewell would win in 2001, with the event not held in 2002, while Johnny Wheeler won the event's return in 2003. Mother Nature was the 2004 winner, with Steve Hillard hitting paydirt in 2005. Chris Combs is the 2006 and defending champion of the Pete Abell Memorial event.

America's most competitive regional series visits Ponderosa Speedway for the third time in 2007 with this event, with Aaron Hatton of Mount Sterling, KY and Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY scoring victories in the two previous visits to "The Pond" in '07 by the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series. Activities for the July 13 racing program will see pit gates open at 4:00, with main gates open at 5:00. A mandatory driver's meeting takes place at 6:45, with hot laps around 7:00. Time trials get underway at 7:45, with racing getting the green flag at 8:30. Adult general admission will be $15, children ages 6 to 12 will be $5, children under age 6 are free, and a pit pass will be $30.

Ponderosa Speedway last raced on June 29 and feature race event winners that evening were Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Models, P.J. Feistritzer of Danville, KY in Kentucky National Guard StormPay Crate Late Models, Shon Flanery of Mount Carmel, TN in Hardee's Modifieds, Rick King of Junction City, KY in SkyTower Power Race Engine Sportsman, and Randy Maybrier of Waynesburg, KY in Clayton Homes Chevettes.

Current track championship point leaders heading into the July 13 racing event are Aaron Hatton of Mount Sterling, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Models, P.J. Feistritzer of Danville, KY in Kentucky National Guard StormPay Crate Late Models, Shon Flanery of Mount Carmel, TN in Hardee's Modifieds, Logan Whitis of Hustonville, KY in SkyTower Power Race Engine Sportsman, and Randy Maybrier of Waynesburg, KY in Clayton Homes Chevettes.
