The open wheelers were out in force Friday at PIR.

Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Cars
Robert Ballou made the trip to Paducah from Rocklyn, CA worthwhile as he took the checkered flag a half-straightaway ahead of second place Hud Cone of Oakland City, IN. Kyle Cummings of Princeton, IN finished third in the 25 lap feature. Ricky Williams, Daron Clayton, and Ballou were heat winners.

POWRi Midgets
It was the first PIR visit for the full-size Midgets since 1987 and Brett Anderson of Belleville, IL will be remembered as the first Midget winner at PIR in 21 years. Mt. Vernon, IL’s Ryan Criswell and Zach Daum of Pocahonta, IL followed under the checkers after 25 laps. Daum, Scott Hatton, and Brad Loyet won heats. Daniel Robinson of Wayne City, IL was the semi-feature winner.

POWRi Mini Sprints
Jacob Patton of Bethalto, IL won the caution-filled 20-lap feature, followed by Vienna, IL’s Derek King and Brad McDaniel from Carbondale, IL. Kyle Neal, Jarret Cathey, and King won heats, while Ben Wagner was the semi-feature winner.

UMP Modifieds
Brian Higgerson of Pinckneyville, IL won his first 15-lap feature of the season in a thrilling battle over the final laps with Rod Reed of Mayfield, who finished third. Bradford, TN’s Bart Richardson was second. Higgerson and Mike Spatola III won the heats.

UMP Crate (Pro) Late Models
Paducah’s Tait Davenport extended his streak to seven 15-lap feature wins in a row. Matt Liner and Troy English, both from Calvert City, were second and third. Adam Ray and Credence Mott won the heats.

Dirt track action resumes at PIR on Friday, July 4, with a six-division program of UMP Late Models, Street Stocks, and Warriors, plus the Super Cell Mini Sprints. Also, for the Crate (Pro) Late Models, a 4th of July Spectacular paying $1000 to win and $100 to start.

The fireworks display originally scheduled for July 4 has been postponed until July 11 due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts. However, in the community spirit, WPSD-TV 6 will sponsor the popular show.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of co-owners as a partner in September of 2006. Earnhardt, Jr. won the Lifelock 400 at Michigan International Speedway, his first win since 2006, on June 15. In 2008 the 3/8th mile high-banked oval will host several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights of Stars, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, the USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge.
