Friday was a chance for PIR to say “thanks” for a great season on Fan Appreciation Night with half-price adult grandstand admission and dozens of prizes for loyal fans. On the first day of Labor Day Weekend, the showers stopped at 1:45 and 112 racecars filled the pits.

UMP Late Models
Long time favorite Randy Sellars of Mayfield won a spirited race-long battle with Dylan Thompson, the youngster from Paducah. The 20-lap victory was the first of the season for the PIR veteran. Benton’s Tim Brown was third. Thompson and Charles Boze won the heat races.

UMP Modifieds
No surprise as Randle Sweeney of Clifty led all 20 laps of the opener for the Summer Sizzler Series. Sweeney’s eleventh win of the year earned him $1000. Clayton Miller of Elkton was second and Hazel’s Justin Houston was third in the Modified Special event with 35 cars on hand. Sweeney, Miller, Houston, and Steve Copeland won the four heats with Everett Bradham winning the semi-feature.

UMP Crate (Pro) Late Models
Paducah’s Tait Davenport won his tenth 15-lap feature of the season, his second in a row. Cary King of Benton and Josh Harris of Utica followed. Davenport, King, and Adam Ray were heat race winners.

UMP Street Stocks
Stacy Tretter of Princeton, IN took his first checkered flag of the year and won $500 in the twelve-lap street Stock Special presented by Feezor’s Restorations of Paducah. Rebounding from an injury earlier this year, Murray’s Ryan Humphrey was the runner-up and Lloyd Lingle of Buncombe, IL was third. Heat winners were Tretter, Lingle, and Mike Watson.

UMP Warriors
With a $400 purse donated by Larry Meadows Auto Body and Tri-State Construction, Calvert City’s Jeffrey Bailey won his eighth ten-lap feature of the season. Keaton Downing of Gilbertsville and James Scott of Murray followed. Bailey and Wes Henley won heats.

Super Cell Mini Sprints
Point leader Jarrett Cathey of Paducah won his second ten-lap feature of the year over Vienna, IL’s Clint Collins and Mayfield’s Joe Sanderson. Collins won the heat race.

Another six-division program is on tap this Friday, September 5, with five UMP divisions and the Vintage Racers. Also on Friday, PIR and Chevrolet will be giving away the 2008 Silverado to one of 60 qualifiers.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of co-owners as a partner in September of 2006. In 2008 the 3/8th mile high-banked oval hosts several high profile events including NASCAR Nights of Stars, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, the USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge. PIR races every Friday night and is located off Interstate 24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky. For more information call the PIR hotline at (270) 448-4PIR or the track at (270) 898-SHOW (7469).
