LaSalle, IL- The points race is over, the champions are crowned and now the drivers have nothing more on their mind then winning and it showed Saturday night at LaSalle Speedway. The season is winding down with drivers moving up in some classes to try their luck but the competition is still fierce.

Unfortunately, I was only able to catch the final two feature races as I had other commitments keeping me away. What I heard from a full house of “Back To School Night” fans and drivers was the two feature’s I did see were just as competitive as the evening’s earlier events.

Elmhurst’s Jim Partipilo used his Rayburn chassis to out power the seventeen car field en route to claim the UMP Late Models feature victory. Tonica’s Ryan Dauber finished runner up over McHenry’s Skip Martin, West Chicago’s Jay Fiene, Tom Markham of Kirkland, Brandon Slager, Jim Watson, Ryan McQueary, Bart Schwartz and Joe Burba. Larry LeGrand collected eleventh place in front of Billy Weistart Jr., Butch Slager, Danny Bardell, Scott Johnson, TJ Markham and Jason Jaggers.

Tom Markham took home the Dash victory with Fiene, Partipilo and Watson finishing behind him. Brandon Slager won the first Heat over LeGrand and Johnson. UMP Late Model points champion Ryan Dauber took home the fast Heat as Bardell, Tom and Fiene crossed the line after him.

Partipilo was also the fastest qualifier with a time of 13.023.

Tonica’s Eric Dauber started from the pole and never gave up the lead as he led the entire twenty five lap feature event for the Midwestern Late Model division. LaSalle’s Mike Glynn started fourth on the grid and powered into second within the first two laps with Mike Cardine, Darin Furar and Ralph Markham close behind.

Eric began generating an impressive lead but Glynn was beginning to reel him in during the final laps. When Eric and Glynn started dodging lapped traffic Glynn started to put the pressure on. Glynn hit the tires during the final lap taking him out of winning contention as Eric pulled away and took home his fourth win of the season. Glynn finished in second over Reno Markham, Granville’s Darin Furar, Ralph Markham, Mike Cardine, Mike Lock, Wally Forsythe, Doug Newlin, Ottawa’s Butch Hampson, John Piccatto of Spring V! alley, Peru’s Joe Adams, Tony Coglianese and Robert Voice.

Glynn won the first Heat from the back as Eric, Coglianese and Newlin completed the top four finishers. Furar outdueled the fast qualifiers to capture the second Heat over Lock, Reno and Ralph. Hampson posted the fastest qualifying lap with a time of 14.178.

Scott Cimei won the Midwestern Sportsman main event over Oglesby’s Keith Piano, Tonica’s Brian Claudnic, Brian Ray, Streator’s Matt Weibel, Oglesby’s Tina Soberri, Jerry Vance, Daryl Grandys, Duane Peterson, Shane Hill of Streator, BJ Grabow, Mike Harris and Ed Scapardine.

Hill won the first Heat as Cimei, Piano and Jay Hamilton fell in behind him. Weibel, usually in a Street Stock, won the second Heat over Scapardine, Claudnic and Harris.

Kankakee’s Jay Hamilton won the Street Stock feature as Al Gray, Scott Schmidt, Joe Hamilton, Just Rutledge, Chuck Provenzano, John Peterson, Sean Romines, Fleety Beltz, Nick Sell, John Peterson, Gary Schmidt, Dale Waugamon, Daniel Bark, Bret Carlson, Chuck Leason, Mike Rodriquez and Travis Rokey.

The Speedway will host Hank’s 4x4 Jamboree next Saturday night in place of the regular racing program.
