PEORIA —
A few minor adjustments helped Chuck Barnes Jr. find his way back to victory lane Saturday night at Peoria Speedway.

Having come up short in his last few attempts in the Street Stock division, Barnes Jr. took control right from the beginning in Saturday’s 12-lap Feature event and never looked back in claiming his eighth checkered flag of the season in the division.

“We had a few second-place finishes lately, so we scaled (the car) for the first time this year this week and it made a big difference,” Barnes Jr. said. “We threw it on the scale, found some things that were wrong and made some adjustments.

“I can’t say enough about my (pit crew) brother and Randy. If it wasn’t for those guys, I couldn’t make it out here week after week. Those guys put a ton of hours in on this car.”

John Gardner Jr.’s victory in the 15-lap Limited Late Model Feature shared a few similarities with Barnes Jr.’s in the Street Stock division.

After a third-place finish in the heat race, Gardner Jr. took an early lead in the feature and sped away from the field despite enduring three caution flags.
The feature win was Gardner Jr.’s first since May 30.

“We’ve been second the last couple of weeks and I just couldn’t seem to figure it out,” said Gardner Jr., who finished second four times since his last feature victory.

“I changed some shock setups for this week compared to what I’ve been running the last couple of weeks. It seemed to work really good.”

David Baker won the 20-lap Modified Feature in strong fashion by besting the previous track lap record for a Modified racer by .033 seconds.

“I’m tired,” said Baker, who was clocked at :13.340, just faster than the previous record of :13.373. “That track was rough and to get a hold on it was hard on an old guy.

“I knew I was fast out there, but I didn’t know that I was turning track records.”

Steve Lance Jr. rode the top to his second consecutive Late Model Feature victory. Jeremy Kingsley won the 10-lap Hornet Feature.
