PEORIA —
Warning: Winning races may be habit-forming. Just ask Steve Lance Jr.

After poor track conditions wiped out last week’s races, Lance Jr. continued his run of excellence at Peoria Speedway on Saturday night by adding a pair of checkered flags to his already impressive collection.

Competing in both the Late Model and Modified divisions, Lance Jr. doubled his pleasure by winning both to run his season feature count to 11.

In the Modified feature, Lance Jr. passed Dale Munson midway through the 20-lap race and held off Casey Lappin down the stretch to get the win.

Two races later, Lance Jr. won the Late Model feature for the eighth time this season despite a spirited effort by runner-up Brian Harris.

Harris managed to get in front of Lance Jr. on a few occasions late in the race, but Lance Jr. took the lead for good after charging ahead following a caution flag on lap 27 of 30.

Bo Brockway won his first feature in the Limited Late Model division by edging out runner-up Cody Wisher in a back-and-forth battle.

“Hats off to Cody Wisher because he made me earn that,” Brockway said.

“It was a competitive field tonight. I just had to tell myself to stay calm out there.”

The victory was the first for Brockway in the Limited Late Model division, to which he switched to after years of competing in the Street Stock and Modified divisions.

“It’s been a hell of a learning curve, but tonight it paid off,” Brockway said.

Bob Simpson won his seventh feature in the Street Stock division thanks to a mid-race push that put Simpson ahead of the pack.

Simpson had to endure two caution flags with the lead, but still managed to keep runner-up Chuck Barnes Jr. and third-place finisher Doug Sauder in his rear view mirror.

“I just wanted to go forward and get out of the mess and that’s what I did,” Simpson said.

“I was waiting for Chuck to come up because he’s always there. I’m not sure where he finished tonight, but there’s always next week.”

Matt Musgrave won the 10-lap Hornet Feature ahead of Kenneth Butterfield and Jeremy Kingsley.
