(Marion, IL)-A large group of micro sprint drivers will be competing for the chance at a midget car ride in the POWRi national series as Southern Illinois Raceway in Marion plays host to the POWRi O'Reilly Auto Parts-Lucas Oil National Micro Sprint Series in the first ever Edward Jones Shootout on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9. This will be the first national event at SIR in several years.

The fortunate pilot who scores the most points in the two day event in the O'Reilly-Lucas Oil POWRi Micro Sprint races gets the unique opportunity to race a full size midget at an upcoming POWRi National Midget Series race.
Not only must the driver score the most points in the two days at SIR, he must be over the age of 16 and have not driven a midget previously in competition. The incentive for a seat in a full size midget race car is expected to bring a large number of cars to SIR for the fourth event of the
2009 POWRI Micro Sprint Series.

Jeremy Camp of Blue Mound, Illinois won the first event of 2009 on April 24 at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Jacksonville, an event that drew 56 of the Micro Sprints, and Andrew Peters of Indiana topped a field of sixty cars at the Macon Speedway on April 25. Two-time defending national POWRi Micro Sprint champion Derek King of Vienna, Illinois won the May 2 event at the Belle Clair Fairgrounds in Belleville.

King, Gregg Dillion of Terre Haute, Indiana, Jake Palmisano of Pulaski, Ryan Guyett of Springfield, Austin Laskey of Herrin are just a few of the drivers currently in the top ten in points expected to compete in the Edward Jones Shootout, sponsored by Ted Kirkpatrick of Waterloo, Illinois. In addition to the 'Thunder and Lightning' of the winged POWRi Micro Sprints, SIR will also present it's regular nonwinged ,junior and restrictor classes as well.

A car show is scheduled at T-Birds Grille in front of the Marion airport on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. with several race cars slated to be on display. Southern Illinois Raceway is a banked 1/8 mile dirt track located east of Marion just north of Illinois Route 13 at 9365 Foyt Road. Racing begins at 7 each night, camping (no hookups) is available on site.
