Clearwave Communications / Fastrak Midwest Region Late Models “Race for Karl” on Saturday, Sept 10 at Mt Vernon Raceway

By Todd Niemann
(MARION, ILL.) Clearwave Communications of Harrisburg, Ill, and the Fastrak Champions Series Midwest Region Late Models join forces on Saturday, Sept 10 for a Midwest Region Points Race to benefit injured racer Karl Hartung. Hartung, a veteran racer across the Midwest in various divisions, finished third in a Fastrak Midwest Region race at Bond County Raceway earlier this year.

Clearwave Communications owner Scott Riggs is happy to have an opportunity to get his company involved. “When I heard there was going to be a benefit race, I just wanted to help out however I could,” Riggs explained. “We just want to take care of Karl however we can, and getting my company involved as a sponsor to make this race happen was one way to help.”

Fastrak Midwest plans to use each of the remaining events to raise funds for Hartung, not just Mt. Vernon. “We are looking at creative ways to raise money for Karl, and using the rest of the scheduled events this season is just a start.” Scott Ferguson, promoter of Fastrak Midwest says. “Karl has a long recovery in front of him, eight months or more before he can get back to work, so we want to help him as much as we can.”

The event will include Fastrak drivers circulating through the grandstands gathering donations, and the traditional Fastrak Tennis Ball Toss before the feature. Dirt Hound will be on hand for the kids.

Tickets for Saturday night are $10 for adults, $5 for children 7-12, and six and under are free. Mount Vernon Raceway is located at Interstate 57 exit 95, one mile south on the Wells Bypass Road in Mount Vernon, IL.
