Racing lost a fan and we lost a friend.

A wonderful 16-year-old young man named Dexter Riechmann lost his life in a tragic auto accident Saturday night. He was a student at Highland High. Dex (as he was called) was a member of the hockey team, the baseball team, FFA and Young Christian Athletes.

He was also a big fan of dirt racing!

Dex was a member of our racing team by virtue of being one of my sons’ best friends since grade school. He made many trips to the races with us over the past few years. He loved to be in the pits at the races and tell Bobby what he was doing wrong and then go to work doing anything and everything he could to make the kart faster for the next race. Dex also spent many hours in our shop working on the karts with us. He made warm up laps in our karts at Beaver Creek on several occasions, then he would tell Bobby that “One of these days I’m going to jump in Michael’s kart and kick your butt on the track!” LOL He was just a great, fun loving young man that brought a smile with him wherever he went.

When we were not kart racing he would often go along with us to the Late Model races. He was a big Korte Fan as well and enjoyed being around racing in general.

Dex was a ray of sunshine in my family’s life that will never be forgotten!

FAREWELL YOUNG FRIEND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN……WE LOVE YA!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends.

that is a sad story dude. there have been some young people die recently. didnt a young guy in troy die a month ago in a car crash? tragic .. hope you guys are holding up...

Yes there have been way too many deaths due to auto accidents lately. Someone told me that the Highland area had a record 5 fatalities in the 2 weeks prior to Dexter's death, that is way too many.

If nothing else I hope that this young man's tragic death reminds all of us that no car trip is too short to wear a seat belt. Dexter was killed less than a two blocks from where he got in the car.

So please, please all you young (and old) people that read of Dex's accident, remember him each time you get into a car! Wear that seatbelt no matter what!

We Will Never Forget You Dex....
