by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO: Racing at the high banks of Moberly will resume after a weekend off, and this week it's with the annual Sportsman Special. The weather promises to dry out by this coming weekend and by Saturday's race time it should be the cooler part of the evening. The Sportsman drivers will compete for a $400 first place prize in their 25 lap feature for this July 17th at the end of the evening's races. This is always some great fendered racecar competition to watch, with previous winners Jeff Creed for '05, Pete Agee '06 & '07, Rick Girard in '08 and last year's winner Clinton Dale, all likely on hand once more. Pete has since retired from active driving but his sons Derrick & Cody step in where dad left off. Also racing for their respective purse, points and trohpies will be the other four classes of A & B-Modifieds, the Hobby Stocks and 4 cylinder Hornet classes.

Following the five feature events for this July 17th night will be a mechanic's race for the B-Modified guys who usually turn the wrenches. Only this time, these mechanics will get to turn the steering wheel for a few laps on the cars that these drivers can get to over 100 mph in competition on this dirt track. Always enjoyable to watch at the end of the evening.

"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will begin this Saturday night at 7pm, with a short driver's meeting at 6pm, followed by hot laps, starting at 6:15. See the flyer for this Sportsman Special on our website of www.24racewayinmoberly.com . Admission to the grandstand is only $10 for this and the next two racing weekends of July 31 and August 14 at 24 Raceway. Kids 12 and under are always free to the grandstands, so bring the family. Pit passes are $25 for this and the next two events. A flyer for the Sportsman Special can also be found on the website of www.heartlandmotorsports.com and can be downloaded from both sites.
