Inclement weather attempted to bring Sunday Night Thunder to a screeching halt but thanks to the professionalism of the track’s staff, the action went on and hundreds of race fans got what they came for!

The Street Stock Spectacular and the Winged Outlaw Warriors were the top features of the night attracting fans from as far away as Kansas and Iowa.

Despite the nearly two-hour delay, race fans of all ages stuck it out in hopes to see their favorite driver bring home the trophy.

California’s own Randy Martin scored his second victory of the 2009 season when he beat his competitors to the finish line in the Winged Outlaw Warriors Feature Race making his 38th career WOW win.

Josh Fisher, Smithton, ran a strong second followed by Jonathon Cornell, Sedalia, in third, Curtis Evans, Norborne, rolled in fourth followed by Kyle Bellm of Nixa.

The top five point leaders in the 360 Winged Sprints are Evans, 247; Curtis Boyer, 237; Randy Martin, 231; Tyler Blank, 219; and Jeff Wingate, 205.

The first race of the night brought two heats in the Street Stock Spectacular and it didn’t take long for the mud to fly!

Centertown’s own Ray Smith in the 16j car led the first heat securing a first place spot while Tipton’s Harlan Dowell grabbed the lead in a strategic move during the last few laps in the second heat securing his spot in the feature race.

The Street Stock Feature Race brought lots of action to the track causing officials to wave the yellow flag more than once.

Smith set the pace holding onto his first place lead throughout the entire race while Dowell maintained a close second until the #8 car, driven by John Clancy of California, grabbed the number two spot after Dowell experienced a little trouble between the one and two turns.

The top five winners of the Street Stock Spectacular Feature Racer were Smith, Clancy, Dowell, Tim Cressley, Tipton; and Clayton Campbell, Otterville.

The top five point leaders in the Street Stocks are Dowell, 279; Smith, 267; Clancy, 251; Cressley, 241; and Brad Friedmeyer, 209.

Two Hobby Stock heats gave track fans more than one occasion to hit their feet when last year’s Hobby Stock points Champion, Jeremy Gordon of Sedalia, pulled off the number one spot taking the win for the first heat.

The second heat brought excitement when Eldon’s Emily Booth took a short leap off the track between the first and second turns and later tangled with another car in almost the same spot.

Luke Skidmore, Green Ridge, held out for the win in the second heat.

The Hobby Stocks Feature Race gave way to Sedalia’s Mike Schrader in first, followed closely by Skidmore for the number two seat.

Cherry Wineland, California, pulled in at number three followed by David Martz, Sedalia; and Ralph Booth Jr. of Eldon.

The top five point leaders in the Hobby Stocks are Skidmore, 283; Miranda Arnold, 247; Mike Schrader, 233; Brian Murphy, 221; and Jeremy Gordon, 221.

The race kids of the night were 6-year-old Christopher Worthey, California; 6-year-old Hallie Wright, Carrollton; and 11-month old Breanna Trivitt, High Point.

Attendance prizes were given to Derrick Reed, Clarksburg; Michelle Schroder, Sedalia; Bradley Potter, Jefferson City; Shelby Light, Centertown; Bridget Zimmerman, California; Miranda Peoples, Tipton; Shirley Johnson, Pilot Grove; Hannah Greene, Sedalia; and David Sims, Columbia.
