(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Only a week removed from their 2018 season finale, Ray Cook and the Wynn Motorsports team lifted the lid to their 2019 campaign on January 5-6 in the annual running of the 'Ice Bowl' at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama. On Saturday at TST, Ray stopped the clock third quickest in his group during the time trial session prior to scoring a victory in his stacked heat race. By virtue of winning the fourth prelim, Ray rolled off from the pole position in Sunday's 50-lap headliner.

Looking for his third career 'Ice Bowl' title and the $6,000 payday, the Brasstown, North Carolina ace unfortunately slipped back to fourth in the running order of the unsanctioned contest and was running third on the final circuit. When leaders Michael Page and Cory Hedgecock raced hard into turn three on the last lap, which resulted in Hedgecock going for a spin, Ray scooted past for runner-up honors in finishing 2.57 seconds behind winner Page. Full results from the 28th edition of the 'Ice Bowl' can be viewed online at www.talladegashorttrack.net.

"It was a good run for us over the weekend at Talladega and it kind of reenergized us," quoted Cook following his runner-up performance. "We really haven't got to run that Longhorn by Weaver car in a full race weekend since we got it, so it was great to get some laps and run towards the front. I think we have a really good piece and I have to thank Randy (Weaver) for all of his assistance with the car. We plan to race a little more this year, so getting off to a good start in the Ice Bowl is definitely a step in the right direction!"

The energized #53 team will now take the next few weeks off in preparation for the rescheduled 44th Annual 'National 100,' which will take place on January 26-27 at the historic East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama. Originally scheduled for last November, the $20,000 to win Super Late Model special was wiped out due to inclement weather and rescheduled for the end of this month. Time trials and heat races will take place on Saturday, January 26, while the consolation events and the 'National 100' will take center stage on Sunday, January 27.
