(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Following the completion of the 2012 edition of the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series, promoter Ray Cook could finally turn his focus back to piloting his D&R Motorsports #53 MasterSbilt entry. On Friday night, August 3, Ray returned to racing action at the Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia in a $3,000 to win Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) showdown. Ray laid down the quickest lap of the 38 entrants during the qualifying session to earn the pole position for the 40-lapper. The Brasstown, North Carolina ace raced for the lead throughout the distance and eventually crossed underneath the checkers second behind only winner Aaron Ridley.

Next up for the #53 team was a trip to the ultra-fast Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia on Saturday evening, August 4 for a $4,000 to win Ultimate Super Late Model Series battle. Ray timed in fourth quickest during qualifying, which locked him into the outside of the second row for the 40-lap main event. The driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" hung around the top five throughout the A-Main and was credited with a fifth place effort behind only winner Vic Hill, Dale McDowell, Brett Miller, and Zack Mitchell. Full results from the doubleheader weekend can be accessed online at www.dirtondirt.com.

The D&R Motorsports team will now turn their focus to the 30th Annual ‘North/South 100’ on August 10-11 at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series biggie will once again pay $50,000 to the winner at the Cincinnati-area speedplant. Qualifying will get underway on Friday night, while the heat races, consolation events, and the 100-lap ‘North/South 100’ are slated for Saturday evening. Ray finished an impressive fourth in last year’s version of the ‘North/South 100’ at the King family facility. Additional information can be obtained by clicking on www.lucasdirt.com.
