Caterpillar Race Night
Delayed By Showers
West Plains, MO The 5th Annual Caterpillar Night at West Plains Motor Speedway started in the normal fashion, lots of Caterpillar High Performance Hose Group employees on hand and ready for a good time along with an impressive crowd of late model fans anxious to see the Show-Me Late Model Racin Series turn up the speed on West Plains' red clay oval.
Midway through the heat races the showers started and a halt was drawn to the race program, radar was checked and re-checked. The showers continued with 99 anxious racers in the pits and a grandstand of patient fans we outlasted the showers and the track was rolled for the third time and competition resumed at 10:30 PM. Heat races ran smoothly with few cautions and the first feature hit the track a few minutes after midnight and that was quite a feat with the rain delay and the number of cars running heats.
The Show-Me Racin Series feature winner was Leslie Essary of Crane, MO, followed by Justin Wells of Aurora, MO, and Ken Essary of Cape Fair, MO. A full recap of the late model portion of the program will be provided later.
