Event Delayed by Rain
West Plains, MO (July 28, 2007) The West Plains Propane race night events were delayed by a late afternoon shower. With showers developing all around it looked doubtful at a point that events would begin on schedule, but with a determined mindset the roll in crew worked diligently for nearly five hours.
Start time was delayed an hour and a half, but a smooth, racy, fast track resulted. Several fires broke out during the evening and an early feature pileup during the IMCA Modified feature left seven cars in the pits and another 8 retired before the final lap.
Brandon Ball of West Plains, emerged as the IMCA Modified feature winner at the West Plains Propane sponsored event. Coming across the finish second was Rustin Miller of Houston, MO, followed by Chris Piper of West Plains, Billy Sullinger of Pocahontas, AR, Jerry Croney of West Plains, Ben Ledgerwood of Birch Tree, MO, Joey Smith of Pomona, MO, Marlin Shehorn of Russellville, AR, Scot Crigler of Alton, MO, Brian Judd and Carl Murphy, both of Caulfield, MO, Anthony Carnal of Cabool, MO.
Rounding out the balance of the modified field were Kevin Salter of Batesville, AR, Shawn Walsh of Ash Flat, AR, Kevin Collins of West Plains, Lonnie Judd of Caulfield, Austin White of Mammoth Spring, AR, Calvin Tribble and Bill Adams, both of West Plains, Landon Clinton of Willow Springs, MO, Fred Scarbrough of Koshkonong, MO, Richard Smith of Williford, AR, Bobby Skinner of Moody, MO, Jason Brigman and Matt Barry, both of West Plains, Rob Muilenburg of Highlandville, MO, and David Mallonee of West Plains.
Stan Ellison of West Plains scored yet another Super Stock win this week, followed by Andy Collins and Bobby Bryant, both of West Plains, Chris Junkersfeld of Pocahontas, AR, Clint Seamans of Imboden, AR, Dee Kelly and Herman Kelly, both of Birch Tree, Darren Fox of Vanzant, MO, Jeff North of Rogersville, MO, Steve Sanders of Mtn. Grove, MO, and Joe Ragsdale of Pocahontas, AR rounded out the field.
Hobby Stock feature winner was Shane Hitt of Birch Tree, making his first Victory Lane appearance this season. Taking second was Dexter Frost followed by Brock Frost, both of Birch Tree, Kevin Collins of West Plains, Eric Hopper of Mtn. Home,AR, Bobby Bryant of West Plains, Korey Whitelock of Alton, Dean Smith of Mammoth Spring, Tom Davenport of Yellville, AR, Glen Duke of West Plains, and Tony Krusen of Thayer, MO.
Winner of the Cruiser feature was Chris Skinner of Moody, MO, followed by Clifford Collins, II, Mark Doiron and Rhonda Gunter, all of West Plains, Sissy Ratliff Seamans of Imboden, Tyler Newcom of Hardy, John Stiner and Benny Grogan, both of West Plains, Kelly McDermott of Mtn. Home, AR, and Douglas Lambert of West Plains.
Austin White of Willow Springs, MO, won the Youth Hobby feature, followed by Ben Piper of West Plains, William Piper of Birch Tree, Kyle Duke of West Plains, Ricky Cross of St. James, MO, and Rowdy Trivitt of Williford. New comer Kevin May of Pomona, was sidelined with mechanical problems much to his disappointment.
Next week the 3-day 15th Annual Dirt Works Modified Show-Me Championship will kick off on Thursday. That night will see the Modifieds run heats and a nightly qualifier where the top 8 will transfer to the main event plus the Hobby and Youth Hobby will run weekly points programs.
Friday night will see the Mods again run heats and the qualifier to send the second 8 to the main and the Cruisers will serve as the support class. Saturday nights Mod program will provide the last 8 to the main event along with the highest points drivers from the weekly program who is not already qualified for the main event. Super Stock will be the support class.
Each night the gates will open at 6 p.m., hotlaps at 7:30 p.m., with racing at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday nights admission will be $8 for adults, and $2 for kids 7-11. Saturday night the adult admission will be $12 and kids 7-11 will be $3.
