17th Annual Coca-Cola Fall Nationals
With Show-Me Late Models Score Big
West Plains, MO (Sept. 1) The 17th Annual Coca-Cola Fall Nationals draws nearly 100 race car teams, and a perfect weather night encouraged the spectators to attend this annual event. The Race Brothers sponsored Show-Me Late Models brought 26 late model teams that put on a great event that included four heats a B-feature and a 30-lap main event
During intermission fans were treated to an opportunity to meet and greet the Show-Me Racin' Series stars on the front straightaway. Time was allowed for pictures and autographs and a close up look at the high-powered, late model machines
A full field of 22 Show-Me Late Models took the green flag for the feature event. Chuck Comer of Joplin, MO, scored the pole position by winning the first heat. A lap 3 mishap brought out a red flag for Ron Johnson of Goodman, MO, who pulled up in turn 4 and resulted in him going tailback. The second mishap on lap 20 brought out another red flag when Don Cloyd of Fair Grove, MO, spun on the front straightaway leaving him in an especially dangerous position. During the lap 20 incident #5 Tyler Milner of Huntsville, AR, took to the pits and returned in tailback position.
Throughout the 30 lap feature Comer maintained his lead spot while being challanged strongly by Leslie Essary of Crane, MO, who had to settle for second followed by Kenny Hartwigsen of Aurora, MO, Rick Wallis of Springdale, AR, Rick Lebow of Galena, MO, Chris Powell, Conner Ward of Wichita, KS, Ken Essary of Cape Fair, MO, Roger Wilson and Jim Fulp, both of Aurora, rounded out the top ten.
Balance of the late model field included Jeremy Kelly of Walnut Grove, MO, Jarron Hilton of Crane, Justin Asplin, Birch Tree, MO, Kevin Henson of Marionville, MO, Darrin Barton of Aurora, Mike Madison of Lamar, MO, Tyler Milner of Huntsville, AR, Jimmy Bellamy of Crane, Ken Patterson of Rogers, AR, Frank Tindle of Galena, and Ron Johnson. Twenty-21 cars finished the event with only Don Cloyd being sidelined.
The Coca-Cola Fall Nationals IMCA Modified feature winner was Kevin Salter of Batesville, AR, followed by Brandon Ball of West Plains, Scott Crigler of Alton, MO, Landon Clinton of Willow Springs, MO, Chris Piper and Jason Brigman, both of West Plains, Carmon Vincent of Moody, MO, Anthony Carnal of Cabool, MO, Rustin Miller of Houston, MO, and Billy Romans of West Plains, rounded out the top ten.
Balance of the modified field included Joey Smith of Pomona, MO, Danny Peterson, Calvin Tribble and Matt Barry, all of West Plains, Ben Ledgerwood of Birch Tree, MO, Fred Scarbrough of Koshkonong, MO, Bobby Skinner of Moody, Kirk Hutchings of West Plains, Lonnie Judd and Brian Judd, both of Caulfield, MO, Kevin Collins, Bill Adams and Jerry Croney, all of West Plains, Carl Murphy of Caulfield, Greg Lute of Hardy, AR, and Marlin Shehorn of Russellville, AR.
Stan Ellison of West Plains, won yet another Super Stock feature with Dee Kelly of Birch Tree, taking second followed by Bruce Sutterfield of Jonesboro, AR, Bill Dixon of Thayer, Andy Collins of West Plains, Jeff North of Rogersville, MO, Bobby Bryant of West Plains, Brett Love of Batesville, Steve Sanders of Mtn. Grove, and Derald Kelly of Birch Tree, rounded out the top ten.
Balance of the Super Stock field included Kevin Collins of West palins, Doyle Frost of Alton, Dale Berry of Tuscumbia, MO and Clint Seamans of Imboden, AR.
The Coca-Cola sponsored Hobby Stock feature winner was Kevin Collins of West Plains, by just inches over Dexter Frost also of West Plains. Brock Frost of Birch Tree, took third followed by Scott Todd of Hardy, AR, Korey Whitelock of Alton, Shane Hitt of Birch Tree, Don Wilson of Willow Springs, Dean Smith of Mammoth Spring, AR, Jacob Black of Van Buren, MO, John Richeson of Ash Flat, Travis Burnett of Ava, and Brandon Holder of Mammoth Spring rounded out the Hobby field.
Taking the Cruiser feature win was Clifford Collins, II, followed by John Stiner, both of West Plains, Tyler Newcom of Hardy, Sissy Ratliff Seamans of Imboden, Rhonda Gunter, and Mark Doiron, both of West Plains, Murrill Pace of Gainesville, MO, Clifford Collins and Calvin Gunter, both of West Plains.
Austin White of Willow Springs, MO scored another Youth Hobby Stock feature win. Taking second was Ben Piper of West Plains, followed by Cody Toten of Pomona, MO, William Piper of Birch Tree, Kyle Duke of West Plains, Kevin May of Pomona, and Clayton Gunter of West Plains rounded out the Youth field.
Next week will be the annual Frost Family Race Night, Doyle, Dexter and Dennis Frost of Birch Tree, will be sponsoring the full weekly racing program. Gates will open at 5 pm, with hotlaps set for 6:30 pm, and racing at 7 pm. Adult admission will be $8, senior citizens $5, kids 7-11 $2, and those 6 and under are always free.
