FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – June 29, 2014 - Aaron Reutzel started on the pole and never looked back as he decimated the rest of the twenty car field as the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas sprint car series and the American Bank of Oklahoma American Sprint Car Series Sooner Region ended their two race challenge Sunday night during the “Harvest of the Gold” at 81 Speedway in Park City.
Reutzel, who claimed his fourth ASCS sanctioned victory, took the lead as the green flag fell for the thirty lap feature and quickly opened a half stretch lead over third starting Matt Covington. The Clute, Texas driver was on a rail on the top side of the three-eighths mile oval and by lap six had reached the slower cars. Covington would close to within five car lengths as the leader looked to get past several slower cars and that was as close as he would get as Reutzel worked his way through the traffic and again opened a commanding half stretch lead.
The only way of slowing down Reutzel was a lap twenty caution when former NCRA sprint car champion Kevin Ramey slowed at the top of turn four.
Once racing resumed Reutzel continued his domination of the competition and went on to claim his first career NCRA victory by a half straightaway over Covington. Jeremy Campbell came from his eighth starting position to break up a potential all ASCS regular finish as he claimed third. Tony Bruce, Jr. took time off the national tour to drive the famed Ochs Brothers #1x from twelfth to fourth. Texas driver Josh Baughman rounded out the top five.
Jack Dover of Springfield, Nebraska suffered overheating problems during his heat race and started last in the “B” feature. Dover finished second there and would start sixteenth in the championship feature and would have his Ford power plant working to perfection and come home with a sixth place finish.
Saturday night’s NCRA/ASCS Sooner Region challenge winner at Dodge City Raceway Park and current NCRA point leader C.J. Johnson struggled with motor gremlins for the second night in a row. In Dodge City his power plant exploded as he coast across the finish line to win his heat race. The crew changed motors and would take the victory there. Once again during heat race again the power plant expired during his heat race and he was not able to make the necessary repairs to start the night’s championship feature.
Next up for the NCRA sprint car tour will be on Saturday night, July 12, as they make their second appearance of the season at Butler County Speedway in Rising City, Nebraska in a combined effort with the Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprint Car Series.
