Running HOT

Holeshot

New Member
Im running a little HOT.
Im on Alky, 750 holley
Half way through a feature it gets
to 220 or 230. my filter is clean,
my lines are good, 8 lbs pressure at idle,
new fuel cell, Does anyone have any ideas?
I'm changing needles to 150 BG's to fatten
the thing up a little bit.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The plastic fan should be alright, i've always prefered the metal ones but that's all i've ever used.

Not to familier with mech. pumps and regulators on alky (i use a belt drive) but you will want around 8-10 lbs at W.O.T. Belt drive will drop to around 2 lbs at idle. 8 seems awefully high at idle but like I said i'm not familier with the mechanicals.

Jets seem to be a little small for alky, seems like I have 82 and 83 in a 400 with 13.8:1 compression. You might also try one size smaller on the power valve, it could be leaning out some towards the end of the straightaway causing it to gradually get hotter, just an idea. How do the plugs look?

Water pump, I prefer an aluminum that is made to run at higher RPM's, better flow and less cavitation, but alot of street stock guys use the stock pumps and don't have any problems.

Thermostat, take a 160* thermostat, leave the center in it, and drill (6) 1/8" holes around the inner part of the flange, this works real well.

Thanks for all your help, Its very much appreciated.
I'm going to try the thermostat Idea, thats sounds
good. I'm also going to check my jets again. I'll be
running at St. Francois Co this saturday night so I'll
let you know how it does.
Thanks again.

Do you have a good fan shroud? If you don't, your fan can't do all it's supposed to do. Any shroud will not do. It has to be a close fitting one.

your stock water pump could be broken on the inside and not circulating any water, I had this happen last year. You are way down on jet,you should never run that hot on alky something is very wrong. I have run plastic fans with no shroud on gas and a two barrell and never get that hot. What is your timing set at? Look at the water pump first though, pull that cover off the back and make sure the impeller is still intact.

HOT

Thanks for all your help. We changed jets and needles and seats
and it seems to have helped. The temp only got to 150 last weekend, so I think we will be allright. The bad thing is now my fuel bill went up. (LOL).

Thanks to everyone for your help.
