Kevin Montgomery Tucson, ARIZ (November 26th, 2010) - Iowa shoe Ryan Gustin made the most of his first Wes Hurst Memorial appearance by capturing the 30-Lap Preliminary feature atop the fast USA Raceway 3/8 mile clay oval.
Gustin only needed about a third of the 30-Laps to put himself out front and paced the remainder of the field taking the checkered flag first and locking himself into Sunday's $15k to win finale. Bobby Hogge, Rodney Sanders and Tommy Myer crossed just behind Gustin and also locked themselves into Sunday's feature.
Kelly Shryock, Stormy Scott, Derek Ramirez, Johnny Scott, Nick O'Neil and Tim Donlinger rounded out the top 10.
Day two of the 6th Annual Wes Hurst Memorial kicks off Saturday with gates opening at 10am and racing action at 1pm.

Tucson's, Jeremy Payne, became the 5th winner of the Wes Hurst Memorial as he beat teammate and past winner Terry Phillips in Sunday's 2009 finale keeping Phillips from becoming the first repeat winner.
Christy Georges became the first winner of the Wes Hurst Memorial in 2005 also marking the richest win by a female driver in the Modified ranks while Richie Tosh from Salado Arkansas added his name to the list of Wes Hurst winners as he won the event in 2006.
Tommy Weider and Terry Phillips also captured the esteemed memorial victory in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Phillips and teammate Jeremy Payne, defending WHM champion, will likely both return to fight for the crown with hopes of taking home the 15k prize.
