SALINA, Kan. (Oct. 25) – Two IMCA divisions return after a six-year absence while two more are new to weekly race programs at Salina Speedway next season.
Both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock classes will be back in action Fridays at the 3/8-mile clay oval. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods debut at Salina in 2012.
Opening night is scheduled for April 6 with the inaugural Spring Fling special and a purse of more than $30,000. Point races continue through Sept. 14.
Salina last sanctioned the Modifieds and Hobby Stocks with IMCA in 2006.
“We have a history with the IMCA Modifieds and Hobby Stocks,” said Tommy Hendrickson, who will start his second year promoting Salina. “We had a class that was very similar to the IMCA Stock Cars this season and our ‘B’ modifieds were also very similar to the IMCA SportMods.”
“We like the whole IMCA package, especially the Northern SportMods and the Hobby Stocks,” he said. “The Northern SportMods are a growing class that drivers can be competitive in without hav¬ing to spend a lot of money. The Hobby Stocks are the same way.”
A total makeover of the facility, including reconfiguration of the racing surface, was completed before the start of the 2011 season.
Plans for 2012 include the addition of catwalks in the pit area and the infield.
Points earned at Salina figure toward ButlerBuilt Central Region standings for Modifieds and Probe Industries Northern Region standings for Stock Cars and for Hobby Stocks.
