LaSALLE, IL - Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI rode the cushion to perfection to post his first Xtreme DirtCar Series win of the season on Saturday night at LaSalle Speedway driving the Miller Brothers Coal/Hawkeye Trucking Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo. Schlieper found the right combination with a new car and Mother Nature track preparation to his liking.

A packed house sat through a heavy rain storm just before hot laps and after a two hour delay, the track was repacked, and stayed tacky all night long. Schlieper in his second night out in a new Rayburn chassis started sixth, and passed early race leader polesitter Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN on lap 15, and then pulled away for his tenth XDCS career win.

"We've struggled this year, and my brother Bill had been on me for awhile to get a new car," Schlieper said. "We picked up this new Rayburn this week, and combined with Bill's Pro Power engine, it was one awesome ride tonight. When I'd see somebody's nose come up along side me, I'd just give it more power, and we'd pull away."

XDCS point leader and four-time series champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN came up one spot short of claiming his fourth straight series win. Bloomquist could get close to Schlieper, but not close enough to take the point, and he had to settle for second in the Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Custom Taurus.

Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL made a late race charge to finish third in the 1st City Mortgage Rayburn/Hedrick Monte Carlo. Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH took the fourth spot in the QPI Tools Ripper Mastersbilt/Malcuit Monte Carlo, and O'Neal led the first 15 laps of the race in the Petroff Towing Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo, but finished fifth.

Brain Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA was sixth in the Seubert Calf Ranches Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo, and seventh went to Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI in his Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo. Steve Shaver of Parkersburg, WV finished eighth in the Bill Bland Towing Rocket/Malcuit Monte Carlo.

Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL brought the Lucas Oil/Dunn-Benson Ford Rocket/Eatmon Taurus home in the ninth spot, and 1999 series champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA rounded out the top ten in the Larry Shaw Race Cars/J&J Steel Rocket By Shaw/Kuntz Taurus.

O'Neal took the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by Moran, Bloomquist, and defending and two time series champion Rick Eckert of York, PA in the Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Taurus. Debris on the front straightaway brought out the caution flag on lap four, and the field lined up for a double-file restart.

O'Neal was on the point followed by Moran, Bloomquist, Eckert, Schlieper, Birkhofer, Shaver, Erb, Francis and Pearson. On the restart, Bloomquist got around the outside of Moran for second, and Schlieper bolted up to the third spot running the high line.

On lap five, Schlieper drove under Bloomquist in turn four to take the second spot, and Shaver moved up to the fourth spot, dropping Moran back to fifth.

Eckert fell back to the sixth spot, and almost spun coming off the fourth turn on lap seven. The left-rear suspension on Eckert's car collapsed in turn one on lap eight to bring the second caution flag. Eckert was done for the night, but it wasn't a total loss for the two-time series champion.

In Ringers Gloves Qualifying, Eckert set a new track record by turning the 1/4-mile high-banked clay oval in 12.232 seconds for an average speed of 93.578 miles per hour. Eckert led 13 other drivers that qualified under the old track record of 12.679 seconds set last year by Bill Frye of Greenbrier, AR.

Schlieper and Bloomquist began to pressure O'Neal for the lead after the restart, and Schlieper made the winning move coming off the fourth turn on lap 15. The third caution flag came out on lap 26 when Jim Partipillo of Elmhurst, IL spun his lapped Berkley Trucking Rayburn/Draime Monte Carlo in turn one, collecting Shaver.

Shaver was able to keep going, and restarted from the fourth position behind Schlieper, O'Neal and Bloomquist. When the field went green to begin the second half of the race, things got busy.

Bloomquist got around O'Neal for the second spot, and Erb drove up to the fourth spot on lap 27 getting by Shaver. With 20 laps to go, it was Schlieper leading Bloomquist, O'Neal, Erb, Mars, Shaver, Moran, McDowell, Birkhofer, and Francis. On lap 33, a two-car second turn tangle between Bob Pierce of Oakwood, IL and Matt Miller of Waterville, OH brought out the caution.

O'Neal moved up to challenge Bloomquist for second on the restart, and the pair raced side-by-side for four laps before O'Neal took the position on lap 37. While Bloomquist and O'Neal battled, Schlieper pulled out to a full straightaway lead.

Bloomquist retook the second spot from O'Neal on lap 42, and "The Real Deal" began to fade, as Erb passed him for third on lap 47, and Moran got around him on the last lap for fourth. Bloomquist tried to reel in Schlieper in the closing laps, but Schlieper was too far out in front to take on any challengers.

Eckert, Bloomquist, and O'Neal won the first three ten-lap heat races, and Moran picked up the JE Pistons Bonus Award with a fourth heat race win. O'Neal won the four-lap Action Performance Dash to earn the pole position for the main event.

Pierce won the first ten-lap consolation race in the Peterson Aluminum/Murphy Trucking Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo. Billy Drake of Bloomington, IL won the Bert Transmissions second consy in the Creative Kitchens Mastersbilt/Mulvain Monte Carlo.

Randy Korte of Highland, IL started his Mid-Continental Fuel Rocket/Race Tech Grand Prix from the 21st starting spot, and finished 11th to earn the Advance Auto Parts Hard Charger of the Race Award. Miller finished 12th in the McCullough Motorsports/Lo-Temp Brazing Rocket/Russell Baker Grand Prix for the Lucas Oil Rookie of the Race Award.
