Sylvania, Georgia (February 7, 2018) – Officials of the Screven Motor Speedway in coordination with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series, FASTRAK Racing Series and SCDRA Series have made the difficult decision to cancel the Winter Freeze event scheduled for February 8-10 at the Sylvania, Georgia oval. With forecasts nearing 80% for both Friday and Saturday officials explained the decision was most prudent for everyone involved. “We really want to race. We told everyone yesterday that we intended to race and work around the weather. And we had hoped that forecasts would improve and that we could find a way to get the program in. But we simply cannot change the weather. With the rain we are getting today added to what we are expected to get Friday and Saturday, we would never be able to prepare the racetrack and grounds properly.” said Screven Motor Speedway owner James “Redd” Griffin.

“We have fans and teams traveling from very long distances and we wanted to make a decision as early as we possibly could. But we wanted to make the decision that best benefits everyone. After talking with the World of Outlaws Director Matt Curl, FASTRAK Series Owner Stan Lester and SCDRA Director Kelley Carlton we just felt like we were asking so many guys to take a big risk financially. We hate it for sure. We had done a lot of advertising and already have supplies purchased so it certainly hurts us to not try to run it. It will probably be my luck that the sun will shine Friday and Saturday and this will be the wrong call. But with all the information we have to look at right now coupled with the fact that many teams and fans will need to leave today to get here we think this is just the best decision to make.” Griffin added.

The World of Outlaw Craftsman Late Model Series and Griffin are exploring possible make up dates for the events. Griffin is also making plans to reschedule the FASTRAK event later in the season along with a make-up date for the $13,000 to win SCDRA Renegade 4 Battle Royale. Announcements of those events are forthcoming. Teams that pre-paid for parking will either receive refunds or their checks back. SCDRA Teams that paid entry fees in advance can carry them over to the rescheduled event at Screven or contact Series Director Kelley Carlton at (864) 871-1442 or by email at kelcarms@gmail.com for refund information.
