Granite City, IL – Tom Seets scored the hat trick Saturday, sweeping the card and racing to his third straight NASCAR Dodge Racing Series Late Model win at Tri-City Speedway.

Seets, starting in the fourth row, watched as Pat Ryan, Ken Johnson, Terry McClintock and Tom Seets, Jr., raced nose to tail for the first lap. As the quartet sailed into turn three on the second lap Seets, Jr. slid sideways, momentarily blocking the track. When the dust settled Johnson, McClintock, Keith Flannery and Mike Null were stacked in the turn like cord wood with no fire to go to.

The restart saw Ryan once again jump to the front but three turns later Seets the elder blew Ryan into the weeds and raced off to his third triumph in as many tries. A post-race inspection juggled Ryan and Bob Capps out of the event and resulted in Seets, Jr., Flannery, McClintock and Scott Sterling rounding out the top five. Seets, Sr. and McClintock won the qualifiers.

Bubb Mitchell dodged several ShorTrack Series Sportsman skirmishes to ring up his second feature win of the season. Defending champion Terry Chester led much of the going but once the crash-weary field weeded itself down, Mitchell and Tony Walker challenged for the lead. Mitchell grabbed the lead when lap 13 mechanical woes stuck Chester. Walker threw every move he had on Mitchell but came up only a bumper short at the checkers. Brian McCormick, Rick Squires and Don Patton rounded out the top five. McCormick and Bert Jacoby won the qualifiers.

Jim Laughlin got around leader Billy Liebe with only four to go to win his first Street Stock main event of the season, besting Liebe, David Parker, Robbie Benson and Bill Ernst. The qualifying heats went to Benson and Parker.

Defending Modified champion Joe Dresch visiting victory lane for the first time this year, topping Steve Meyer, Jr., John Stanton, Ricky Huebner and B.J. Seets. Meyer and Huebner grabbed the heats.

Ken Bell grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and was never headed to win his second career Hornet Swarm. Bell winged his way to the hive ahead of Mel Perkins and Pat Harper. Perkins won the Hornet Buzz.
