SELMA, CA (November 15) – Jeff Shepard, the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year in 2001, will return to the World of Outlaws next season driving Helm Motorsports’ #11H Vivarin Maxim.
Shepard, who finished third in the All Stars Circuit of Champions point standings last season, ranked 10th with the World of Outlaws in 2001 while driving the #5 Wirtgen Maxim owned by Guy Forbrook. He is pleased to return to sprint car racing’s premier series.
"I have really missed racing against the World of Outlaws this year and to be back in the series with a great team such as Helm Motorsports is a dream come true," Shepard said. "This year, the Ashworth team has been great to work with and have no doubt helped me keep race fit and in the spotlight.
"Vivarin has been a great supporter of the team, along with sprint car racing in general, over many years and I can’t wait to be a part of the team."
David Helm, who finished ninth in the World of Outlaws owner standings with Stevie Smith driving his Vivarin-sponsored car in 2002, is looking forward to having Shepard race for him next season.
"Jeff is an aggressive driver," Helm said. "He’s a good driver and we look forward to having him race for us next year. He’s going to Australia in December and we will have the car ready for him when he gets back. This is a good break for him and us both, and we’re looking forward to having a good year."
Shepard, one of the most enthusiastic drivers in sprint car racing, is also excited about racing "Down Under" in December and January.
"After the disappointing end to last year’s tour at the (Grand Annual Sprintcar) Classic (at Premier Speedway in Warrnambul, Victoria, Australia), I am determined to come back and reward the hard work put in by the Disbury team and their sponsors," Shepard said. "We have an extremely busy schedule starting from December 26 through until the end of January, taking in the best shows in the country which will get me into good shape for the start of next year’s World of Outlaws season."
Shepard, 31, lives in Upperco, MD. He recorded 31 top-10 finishes, including 13 in the top five, in 63 World of Outlaws main events in 2001. Shepard also won the first two "A" Features of his career that year – at Central Washington State Fair Speedway and the Harvest Classic at Calistoga Speedway.
