Slone and Brown Back to Victory Lane at I-44 Speedway

Lebanon, MO; Week six of the Monster Energy Chase for the Cup brought sizzling weather and racing to the Lebanon I-44 Speedway, with several new faces in victory lane.

Making only his second Asphalt Modified start, Michael Stake of Phillipsburg took the early lead in the Modified feature with Raytown’s Ron Hartford and Lebanon’s Brian Brown in hot pursuit. Stake raced flawlessly for the first half of the race while Hartford and Brown were hammering it out for second. Brown finally managed to get past Hartford with five to go and set his sights on the leader Stake. Brown hounded Stake’s mirror for a couple laps until finally making his move to the bottom of turn three. Brown would pull off the victory, his second of the season. Stake and Hartford came home second and third, Ricky Icenhower fourth and Ken Dickinson rounded out the top five.

Mike Slone of Rolla made it two in a row in the Late Models, grabbing the lead just before halfway from early leaders Jim Vanzandt and Joe Ross. The race was halted after a hard crash between Brian Woods and Terry Limberopoulos brought out the red flag. Although both drivers were finished for the night, they were both able to walk away without injury. Slone took off when racing resumed and cruised to his second consecutive victory. Ross came home second, Dickinson third, Caleb Hall fourth and Vanzandt rounded out the top five.

Lebanon’s Mike Coryell jumped out to the early lead in the Coca Cola Street Stocks, looking for his first visit to Monster Energy Victory Lane. Dale Roper Jr., looking to stay perfect on the season, battled for second with Devin Archer and Rick Sharp, taking the position with six laps to go. Roper caught Coryell, immediately diving to the inside for the lead. The two made contact in turn four, bringing out the caution with four laps to go and sending both cars to the rear of the field. Coryell made a mad dash through the field, retaking the lead and taking home his first victory of the season over Roper, and Archer.

Cole Williams and the Baby Grands made their second appearance of the season, with the same result as the first as young Cole Williams stole the show. Payton Lucas stole the show in the Pure Street division taking his second victory of the season in the Pure Stocks over Steve Shaw. Gary Davenport saw his winning streak in the Charger class get snapped as Shawn Jones passed him midway through the race to take home the win.
