Special Practice Session For Stormpay.com Dirt Late Models At Golden Isle Speedway

CLARKSVILLE, TN – Golden Isle Speedway in Brunswick, GA will host a special practice session for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series on Thursday night, February 2 with gates opening at noon, and practice to begin at 4 p.m. The practice session will be in preparation for a pair of $2,500-to-win main events for the series on February 3 and 4.

David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN leads the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National point standings with a win in the season opener on January 8 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and a second-place finish in round two at Mississippi’s Columbus Speedway on January 21. Gentry, with 196 points, holds an eight point lead over two drivers tied for second in the points chase.

Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN and Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA both have accumulated 188 points. Johnson won at Columbus Speedway and finished sixth at Talladega Short Track. Beard was the fast qualifier and finished second at Talladega, and followed that up with a fourth-place effort at Columbus. Beard is also the leading Rookie of the Year candidate.

Shannon Buckingham of Morristown, TN goes to Golden Isle Speedway fourth in the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National point standings. Buckingham finished fifth at Talladega, and posted an eighth-place finish at Columbus. Buckingham also leads the series NeSmith Chevrolet Hard Charger points.

Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA is fifth in points, with Jimmy Kay of Taylorsville, GA, Tracy Watson of Carrollton, GA, Carnell Parker of Clarksville, TN, and Jeff Smith of Villanow, GA sitting in the sixth through ninth spots respectively. The defending StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Denny Slayton of Rossville, GA rounds out the top ten.

Other top entries for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series include National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame member Jeff Purvis of Clarksville, TN, veterans Mike Head of Ellenwood, GA, Don Jenkins of Kingston, GA, Curtis Cline of Douglasville, GA, Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, and Zach Nichols of Cedartown, GA.

Among the rookie drivers battling Beard for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2006 will be Michael Page of Douglasville, GA, Matt Barrett of Knoxville, TN, Travis Pennington of Winston, GA, Mark Page of Douglasville, GA, Chris Turley of Oxford, AL, and J.J. Nye of Ballground, GA.

The Fairfield Inn Marriott in Brunswick, GA is the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series Official Host Hotel for the series events at Golden Isle Speedway on February 3-4.
