(April 26) -- Farmington, MO -- The 2008 season finally got underway Saturday evening. Mother Nature had the pleasure of winning the opening two weekends. She did not prevail on this weekend.

Jimmy Hurley, Springfield, IL, would come home the victor in the 25 lap 410 Sprint Division as he took advantage of some slower traffic and made a pass on lap 18 and led the remainder of the event for the win.

The start of the event saw Tommy Worley, Jr , Farmington, shoot to the front with Bryan Matthews, Park Hills, Hurley and Tim Montgomery in hot pursuit. These four would do battle for most of the event. Matthews did however fade in the end and finished sixth.

Joey Montgomery, 2007 Sprint Champion, had some trouble getting his car to hook up to the track condition, but he did manage a third place finish to start his 2008 campaign for a repeat as champion.

The Main event ran with only 2 caution periods. Casey Barnhouse spun his machine on lap 7 and Robbie Standridge on lap 12 for a stalled machine.

Twenty-two Sprints were in the pit area for the evenings races.

Modified action saw 2007 Champion Brent Thompson, Park Hills, sweep his heat, dash, and the feature events and pull off the first “hat trick” of the season.

Starting the feature event, Thompson, Jermey Greenwalt, Potosi, Kasey Nations, Park Hills and Mike Francis, Fredericktown move to the front. However, Thompson was not seriously challenged during the event and won handily. These four drivers plus Jeff Hall, Jr would complete the top five.

The Modified feature ran the full 15 lap distance without a caution period.

Thirty-four Modifieds would fill their pit area on this evening.

Our Pure Street Division will crown a new Champion this season. Last years Champion, Chris Boyd, will be diving the modified all season. Last year Chris did double duty in the Modifieds and Pure Street. Just the Modified this season.

John Bohn, Farmington, raced his way to the lead and captured the Pure Street Feature on this evening. Shane Blair now resides in the seat vacated by Boyd and looked strong at the start of the event. His car had developed a pushing condition and had to settle for runner-up spot.

After winning his heat and starting outside the front row, Dom Wadlow would find himself on the outside looking in. At the conclusion of the event Wadlows car was placed under a tear down protest. He denied the tear down and was disqualified. Wadlow must now serve a two week suspension before he can race at SFCR.

Sixteen Pure Streets were on hand.

Ryan Kempin, Catawissa, MO, made shambles of the field as he dominated the 600 cc Multi portion of the nights proceedings.

Kempin did and outstanding job with his car. When he pulled into victory lane oil was found inside the drivers compartment. Oil pressure was still good in the engine so all involved were not to concerned.

Mark Shirshekan did double duty as he also drove his sprinter. Shirshekan won his heat, but failed to go scale out and had to start the feature on the tail. He would finish second.

Eleven cars were in the Multi pits this evening.
