Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 7, 2020) - Trey Starks kicked off a two-race weekend at Knoxville Raceway by posting his third straight top-10 performance at the oval last Friday.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver was on pace to top that result the following night before a late-race crash resulted in a DNF.

"We got a big chunk of dirt through the right side and it hung the throttle open," he said. "I got into the cushion a little bit in turns three and four. It caved the panel in and hung the throttle. We crashed going into turn one. That was pretty wild. I got the engine shut off in the middle of flipping."

Starks noticeably improved his qualifying result at the track each night, timing in fourth quickest on Friday and second quickest on Saturday. He placed sixth in a heat race both nights and made the feature inversion, starting sixth on Friday and fourth on Saturday.

"We're definitely getting some speed," he said. "Our qualifying is getting better, which is something we were missing and struggled to figure out. We're constantly making changes to the car and learning every week. It was good to get speed back.

"We were just off a little bit in the feature on Friday. The track was slightly different than we anticipated. It got a little bit slicker and the cushion was pretty big. We maintained pretty well throughout the duration, but we faded a couple of spots on the last restart."

Starks' 10th-place outing was his sixth top 10 of the season.

It looked like he'd add to that total throughout much of the feature on Saturday as he was running in sixth place with four laps remaining when the hung throttle resulted in the car hitting the wall in turns one and two.

"I was battling for a top five pretty much the whole race," he said. "We had a good race going before we got into trouble late in the race and got upside down. I was happy with our speed overall last weekend."

Starks, who ranks 10th in the championship standings, will return to Knoxville Raceway this weekend. He'll compete in the 360ci winged sprint car division on Friday and the 410ci winged sprint car class on Saturday.
