Inside Line Promotions - MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 18, 2014) - Trey Starks is excited to make his season debut in the Northwest this weekend.
Starks has returned to his home state of Washington as he is scheduled to tackle a trio of ASCS Northwest Region races this week - Friday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., and Saturday and Sunday at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore.
"I'm really excited about this weekend," he said. "Everything should slow down because we've been at these big, fast tracks."
Starks is coming off a sour ending to his eight-week trip to compete with the PA Posse in Central Pennsylvania.
"This weekend was our third week in a row we've had mechanical issues," he said.
The team was unable to race on Wednesday during the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., because of engine and driveline issues.
After a variety of parts changes at the end of last week, Starks headed to Williams Grove Speedway for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series weekend doubleheader.
Starks opened the weekend by qualifying 17[sup]th[/sup] quickest, which was only one position out of the heat race inversion that would have started him on the pole of a heat race.
Unfortunately, the mechanical woes reappeared at the start of his heat race and the Last Chance Showdown. Starks ended the night with an eighth-place finish in the consolation race.
The team wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at the half-mile track for the $17,000-to-win Morgan Cup.
"We literally replaced everything in the fuel system and the electrical system in the car," he said. "We changed everything and finally found it Saturday. It ran good on Saturday."
However, Starks had a late qualifying spot and it put him behind the eight ball for the remainder of the night.
"I was the second-to-last car out to qualify and the track went away," he said. "I didn't put down a great lap. We just weren't competitive."
Starks finished where he started - 10[sup]th[/sup] - in his heat race and he missed a transfer in the C Main by two positions.
Starks is slated to return to Pennsylvania at some point this summer, including a possible trip for the famed PA Speedweek.
