MODOC, SC – David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN and Shannon Buckingham of Morristown, TN earned the front row starting positions on Friday night for Saturday night’s 50-lap $5,000-to-win StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series event at Modoc Speedway. Gentry earned the pole position after winning the StormPay.com Lightning Quick Six-Lap Dash.
Gentry made the dash by qualifying third quick, and winning the third ten-lap heat race driving the Hawkins Equipment Mastersbilt/604.
Buckingham won the first ten-lap heat race in the S&S Millwright Barry Wright/604, and then finished second to Gentry in the dash. Buckingham was also the fast qualifier among the 40 entrants by turning a lap around 4/10-mile clay oval in 17.662 seconds for an average speed of 81.531 miles per hour.
Jeff Smith of Villanow, GA won the fourth ten-lap heat race, and finished third in the dash to claim the third starting spot for the big show on Saturday night driving the Smith and Sons Trucking Warrior/604. Jordy Nipper of Gray, GA won the second ten-lap heat race and finished fourth in the dash. Nipper will start his Scotty’s Muffler Newman/604 on the outside of row two.
The top four finishers in the four ten-lap heat races on Friday night transferred to Saturday night’s main event to make up the “Sweet 16.”
