Monett Mo. 101 race teams checked in the gate at the Monett Speedway, as mother nature gave it's 1st beautiful Sunday since the season began.
In the UMP late model division, Justin Wells, Jesse Stovall, and Rusty Dukes took heat race wins, with wells and Stovall setting the pace for the 22 car main event. Wells took the advantage only to have the red wave for a complete restart. When the race resumed, Stovall got the jump and led the 1st circuit, Wells 2nd Tony Jackson 3rd. The caution came out on lap 2 for a car sitting in turn 3, lining the field back up nose to tail. Stovall again got a good jump and started to pull away, as Brandon McCormick took the 3rd spot over. On lap 10 point leader Brad Looney started to make his way to the front from his 4th row starting position to take the 4th position. Stovall continued to pull away as Looney moved to the high side, taking the 3rd spot on lap 15, only to jump the cushion on lap 17, giving the position back to McCormick. When the checkers flew, it was Stovall, picking up his 1st late model win, followed by Wells, McCormick, Looney, and Jackson.
Modified action saw Eric Turner and Mitch Keeter sitting on the front row of the A feature Turner led the 1st circuit, with Keeter, Rex Merritt, and Terry Beckham,all fighting for the 2nd spot. Turner checked out on the field, as the fight for 2nd raged on. Turner took the win, followed by Beckham, and Merritt.
Factory Stock action was the best of the night. Jody Tillman led the field to the green, with Chris Darnell to his outside. Tillman took the lead, with Darnell fighting on the inside. George Meyer took the 2nd spot on lap 8, with his sights on the leader. With a late race caution, it was anybodies race as Kelly Bremer had moved into the 3rd spot. With 4 laps remaining Tillman held off Meyer at the line. Bremer held on for 3rd.
In the Bomber class Shawn Strong took home, making it a special birthday. Rookies saw Shawn Price in victory lane. Lonnie Muhlbauer got the Pro-4 win, and Terry Williams made a last lap pass to take the hornet win.
Next week the Monett Speedway will host the DLRA, MSRA Challenge. Also appearing will be Factory Stocks, Bombers, Pro-4's, and Rookies. Gates open at 5:00, races start at 7:30.
