Even though the Motorsports season usually winds down in September, Super Late Model action will be gearing up at PIR. On Friday, September 12, UMP and the Northern All Stars will co-sanction the $5000 to win Wayne Coakley Memorial.

With the huge purse and the participation of both NALMS and UMP, a large field of the Midwest’s best Late Model stars and cars is expected for the fall classic.

This event will be a tribute to the late Wayne Coakley, a Western Kentucky racing legend, who lost his life years ago while traveling home from an area race track. Coakley’s widow, Donna, was injured in the mishap and still suffers from those injuries. About the Wayne Coakley Memorial she says, “I’m thrilled that PIR is having this race to keep Wayne’s memory alive”. She plans to attend the event.

The Wayne Coakley Memorial will be the first in a huge three-race Midwest Motorsports weekend with big money on the line for Late Model competitors. In addition to the increased purse at PIR on Friday, I-55 Speedway in Peveley, MO will host a $10,000 to win UMP/ World of Outlaws Late Model sanctioned event on Saturday, September 13. Then, on Sunday, September 14 at LaSalle (IL) Speedway, the same sanctioning bodies will host the Illinois Fall Nationals paying $7000 to the winner.

At PIR local divisions including the UMP Crate Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Warriors also will participate on September 12.

Pit gates will open at 3 PM. The grandstand gate and ticket office will open at 5 PM.

Adult grandstand admission is $20. Tickets for children 12 and under are $5. Pit passes are $30, minor releases are required.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of co-owners as a partner in September of 2006. In 2008 the 3/8th mile high-banked oval hosts several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights of Stars, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, the USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge. PIR races every Friday night and is located off Interstate 24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky. For more information call the PIR hotline at (270) 448-4PIR or the track at (270) 898-SHOW (7469).
