(Warrensburg, MO) L.J.S. Graphics and Midwest Coating are proud to present this week’s racing action at Warrensburg’s own Central Missouri Speedway, Saturday, August 21. Active Boy Scouts with proof of membership will get in the gates for just $5 this weekend and will also receive a free goodie bag courtesy of the MO Army National Guard and many local businesses and fans who donated the items for the scouts.

Last Saturday night at CMS marked a first-time winner at the track when Kansas driver Rick Beebe made track announcer SamOnTheMic eat his words about “the Kansas boys going home with their tales between their legs” after he took his first-ever CMS ‘Mighty’ Modified feature win in convincing fashion last week. Beebe, a legend of racing in the Greater Kansas City Metro survived a challenge by Jim Moody and point leader Jason Thompson and “the big modified melee” as he claimed the win. Who will rise to the occasion this Saturday in the modifieds? Thompson is the point leader this year and will surely want to be dialed in on the fast and smooth high-banked clay oval but he will again have to continue with the likes of Beebe to claim his third win. The wonder of who will show up at the track to compete continues this weekend when all eyes will be set on the field to see if the likes of Aaron Marrant, Joe Walker, Terry Schultz, James McMillin, or Jason Bodenhamer will come away with the victory. Or perhaps, a traveler or a driver who has not visited CMS in a while will come away with the win, there’s only one way to find out and that is to get out of the house and to the track to witness it first-hand for yourselves! It is rumored once again that eight-time CMS feature winner Dustin Boney will not be in attendance.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the ULMA late models as their championship season comes to an end. In the quest for the overall hunt Jason Bodenhamer is not only the association leader but the track point leader as well with seven victories so far this year. It appeared ‘Bodee’ would claim win number eight last week but motor issues sidelined the double-duty driver as Jon Binning of Warrensburg, last year’s champion, claimed his second win of the year. One of the most inspiring drives of the year belonged to Lane Ehlert all the way over from Foristell, Missouri in a CRATE late model as he led many laps during the feature race; ultimately coming away with his best-ever CMS finish in second. After a mid-week special event at the state fair, the ULMA drivers will once again return to CMS and readjust to the high banked bull ring for close-up racing. Will Derek Nevels and crew be able to return the car Bodenhamer has been driving to the track in time for Saturday night? Look for Ehlert and Binning to once again be near the front as a surging Steve Clancy will also be a threat for the win. Other ULMA standouts such as Brett Wood, Kevin Coyne, Shawn Rayfield, and Bob Test are also known to sling their full-bodied cars around the CMS corners. You will find no stronger field of ULMA competitors than the field competing at CMS on a weekly basis.

It has certainly been refreshing to see the Street Stocks have a resurgent year at CMS so far this season. Many critics, drivers included blasted the track for changing up the rules a bit at the start of the year and at first it looked as if the armchair quarterbacks would be right; however, that is until the last month or so when the track has averaged at least an 18-car field for some ultra-competitive racing action. The street stocks pack a wallop, drivers that don’t like each other, fans that make a point to be louder than the other fans, fast cars, and on the track drama, just like street stock racing should be! Brian Johnson still maintains his point lead but Chad Eickleberry, who is still trying to recover from a black flag DQ a few weeks back is clawing his way back to the front. Will Johnson be able to rebound and capture another feature win to pad the point lead or will Eickelberry continue to cut into his lead. Another question on the minds of those closely monitoring the street stock situation is, who will drive the John Brooks-owned number 49 machine this weekend, the car that has claimed well over half the features this year with multiple winners behind the wheel! Last week, the rumor was modified driver James McMillin might have a turn this weekend. At this point, it’s just too early to tell and many nights when the car is registered it is a complete surprise, such as the week Dustin Boney piloted the car to the Waterloo Storage Products winner’s circle, as has Brooks, and Dean Wille. Keep an eye on Michael Mullins, Bryce McMillin, Bryant Moyer, and Bobby Ruff this weekend as well if they decide to bring their cars to the track to race with the best.

The B-Mod Dominator Brad Smith, of Belton, Mo claimed his eighth win of the season last week in a royal butt-kicking over the rest of the field. In one of the coming weeks another driver is sure to raise the bar of his or her race program to finally challenge Smith’s total domination of this division. There are far too many talented drivers, both young and old who can get the job done given the right circumstances. Drivers such as defending champion Ethan Isaacs, Jacob Ebert, Chris Brockway, Mark Evinger, Dalton Kirk, Lucas Isaacs, and Nic Bennet can no doubt hang with the best of them but they are going to have to “turn it up to eleven” and raise the bar of their race programs to beat Smith. It’s not who draws what number to start in his or her heat race, or who got stuck with who in any given heat race, instead, it comes down to the sheer will and determination to be a winner! We’ll see how the drama unfolds for the b-mod contingent this Saturday.

Things get underway this weekend when the pit gates swing open for drivers at 4:30, followed by the grandstand gates opening at 5. The drivers meeting takes place at 6:30 with hot laps getting underway at 7 and racing hitting the track at 7:30. Adult general admission is just $12, with senior citizens 65+ and military and college students with I.D. just $8. Kids 13 to 17 years are also just $8 to get in, children 6-12 years are $6, and young ones 5 and under are absolutely free! Individuals permanently bound to wheelchairs also get in the grandstands absolutely free of charge thanks to promoters Earl and Susan Walls.
