The race is on… Points race, that is, as Big River Sand Drags has laid down 14 points races – and only 4 remain…

Labor Day Weekend at BRSD was as to be expected with an equal turn out for both nights of racing. The biggest highlight of the weekend (I think) was the introduction of the Adult PeeWee class. Though it was originally slated for the ATV Nationals, it actually debuted Saturday night. For some, it was pure silliness. I mean, a grown man (or woman) on an itty-bitty 4-wheeler – how absurd! But for others it was a release; from the intensity and stress of the race; relief from where you stand in the points; and really just a way to help us all to remember just how fun this sport really is.

As the final four approaches, many of you will go to the track and have fun - one or maybe all of the remaining races. But a slim margin of you will fight tooth and nail, 4 for 4, to get every last show up point. These competitors will be beside you, racing their heart out to beat you to the win light for a chance to place.

Would you like a couple of examples as to how close the race really is? People like Regan Posey (Fults, IL) and Jason Waller, Jr. (Bonne Terre, MO), tied for second place in Junior ATV – a mere 45 points behind current first place holder Skyler Barker (Waterloo, IL). Or how about Miranda Kling (O’Fallon, MO) and brother Joshua, first and second place holders in Pro ATV, where only 5 points separate the siblings.

Currently, there are over a dozen members in the running for a possible seat in the Tournament of Champions event, which will follow the conclusion of the Precision Powersports Points Finale on October 4th. The first place points winner in each of the vehicle classes will compete for the Overall Vehicle Championship. In the ATV division, we could possibly see the top two (or three) in each class battle it out based on how the event has been officiated in prior seasons. Nonetheless, we are extremely close to crowning the 2008 Overall Track Champions of Big River Sand Drags.

So, help cheer them on by coming out Saturday, September 13th for Andy’s Garage Night at the track. Gates open at 2pm; Time trials are from 3-5pm and Racing starts at 6pm.
