Lincoln, Ill. (Apr. 24) – After a weekend of rotten weather, forty-four UMP Modifieds signed in to compete at Lincoln Speedway. After the 20-lap main, Joel Funk had earned his first career UMP Modified victory over a hard charging Kelly Kovski. Funk’s margin of victory was less that one car length. Randy Huffman, Gary Cook, Jr., and Brian Lynn finished in the top five. Darcey Wey, Funk, Lynn, and Kovski won Heat Races, while Rick Weekly and Matt Goulden topped the Consolation Races.
After starting sixth, Chris Tackett scored his first career Street Stock feature win. Tackett held off last week’s feature winner Larry Russell, Jr. and Travis Wallbaum. Danny Glover and Kevin Skelton rounded out the top five. Robert Reynolds, Steve Ewing, and Jim Farley won in Heat Race action, while Tom Riech topped the Consolation Race.
Steve Lance, Jr. used his pole starting position to drive away from the Late Model starting field. Lance, Jr. was uncontested throughout the 20-lapper in his Team Budda / Rayburn / Monte Carlo. Tim Lance finished in the runner-up spot, while Jackie Campbell, Frank Shickel, Jr., and Ryan Unzicker followed in the top five. Lance, Jr. and Shickel, Jr. won the Heat Races.
J.R. Eskew completed the trio of career first-time winners after getting by eventual runner-up Eric Keymon to win the Wild Thing 15-lapper. Jim Eads, Steve Huffman, and Shawn Awe ended the event in the top five. Rick Eads, Jim Eads, and Keymon each won Heat Races. Zach Mills won the Consolation Race.
Next week, Outlaw Wingless Sprints return to Lincoln. UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Wild Things fill out the card. Hot Laps begin a 4pm, with racing to follow at 5pm. Grandstand admission is $10.
