CLARKSVILLE, TN – Thunder Mountain Speedway in Fyffe, AL has signed on with the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series for the 2006 season. Competitors in the Thunder Mountain Speedway Crate Late Model Division will now compete with drivers at other StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series tracks for Regional and National point fund money.
Promoter Michael “Bucket” Stewart will operate Thunder Mountain Speedway on Saturday nights in 2006, and after seeing 78 cars at the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series season opener at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on January 8, wanted to be a part of the Weekly Racing Series.
“Some drivers approached me about the Crate Late Models this season, and after I saw 78 of them at Talladega Short Track in January, I knew Thunder Mountain Speedway needed to be a part of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series,” Stewart said. “It is the most feasible way to race, and I really think it is going to be good for the sport.”
Stewart has also agreed to host a StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event with a special Friday night $2,000-to-win event on July 14.
“The addition of Thunder Mountain Speedway in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series is going to add a lot of excitement in the East Region, as Alabama has a plethora of dirt late models powered by GM Performance Crate Engines,” StormPay.com President of Operations and Communications Roby Helm said. “With the GM Performance sponsorship of the Weekly Racing Series, the track champion at Thunder Mountain Speedway will be eligible for the drawing among the other track champions in the series to win a GM Performance 604 Crate Engine.”
The Crate Late Models, in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series feature economical engines produced by GM Performance and sealed at factory. The competitors are not permitted to break the seals in an effort to gain a horsepower advantage through expensive modifications.
The steel-head “602” engine sells for $2,950, and the aluminum-head “604” engine sells for $4,950, with free delivery for either engine. These engines are race-ready right out of the crate from the factory, and are readily available at GM dealerships nationwide.
The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series season is now underway and member tracks will compete under the sanction for 24-weeks through October 1. Each driver’s top 16 finishes will count towards their regional point totals. Thunder Mountain Speedway will be in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series East Region.
