STEWART, OHIO- This Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15 the newly established Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA)will host an outlaw-style Triple-Header for its potent 410 Sprint Car series. Friday, the powerful 410 Outlaw Sprint cars on Hoosier Tires will square off at Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio, then travel 40 minutes down river to the Ohio Valley Speedway in Lubeck, WV. Skyline will host a single show on Friday, then Ohio Valley kicks off a double-header for the sprint series, stemming from a May 1 rainout. Two 25-lap features will be run at OVS.
Chillicothe, Ohio's Danny Smith blitzed the field to become the first-ever Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association winner and is the current point leader.
Rich in tradition of open wheel racing, the Ohio River Valley for a time evolved to a stock car hotbed. With Wayne McPeek at the helm of Ohio Valley Speedway and Billy Jarrell taking over the deed to Skyline Speedway, sprint car fields have blossomed from a dozen cars to over twenty on a regular basis. The Ohio Valley Sprint Car Series has added the icing to the cake in making area racing more rewarding with an over $15,000 points fund up for grabs.
Sprint cars have the highest ‘Horsepower-to-Weight’ ratio (900 HP to 1250 pounds) of any known racing machine. The methanol belching, wheelie popping, wheel-to-wheel, "backin' it in style" of racing has proven to be one of the most thrilling spectacles in motorsports.
Back in the "Hay-Day" of American Sprint car racing, Skyline and Ohio Valley teamed up for some of the biggest racing weekends of the times. On at least five occasions, the two tracks will team up again in 2010 for dual weekends. The next visit to the two tracks will be June 25 and June 26, although the month of June brings two double-header weekends. Friday, June 18 will be a Skyline run, then June 19th the series invades the Bullring at Tyler County Speedway for the first time.
The Hoosier/Hoosier Ohio Valley series met with great success with more members expected to join and several other cars damaged last week expected to join the series in the following weeks.
The Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA) is a 410 Sprint Car Series which sanctions 410 Outlaw style sprint car racing regionally in the Ohio-West Virginia area within two hours of the Charleston, WV area. The sanctioning body was born during the off-season prior to the 2010 racing season in an effort to promote and provide sprint car racing teams within a uniform set of rules; and stabilize purses for the betterment of the sport of 410 sprint car racing. The organization also offers sprint car teams an alternative to use a tire brand, namely Hoosier Tires, in contrast to track tire deals that command the use of other tire brands. The racing season for the OVSCA runs from April through October.
All OVSCA races pay at least $1,500 to win and $200 to start with at least one monthly special event that features a bolstered purse structure. Points will be kept for all drivers. The top 20 in points will be awarded a cash award at the end of the season with a season champion to be crowned.
