The American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) and Winged Outlaw Warrior (WOW) 360 sprints visit Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg for an early season open wheel special on Friday, April 30 along with the 600cc micro sprints. The Midwest Region ASCS series will feature drivers from several mid-western states along with the area WOW drivers primarily from Missouri and Kansas. The micro drivers will also make their first appearance at CMS in over 15 years.

The weather washed out the season opener last Saturday, but this weekend fans will be treated to two nights of racing action at the fastest high banked clay oval in the Midwest. This race marks the first return of sprint racing since 2005 when the 305 sprints raced at CMS on a weekly basis. Some of those same drivers are expected to return to the track for this special Friday night event.

According to Lonnie Wheatley from ASCS, the ASCS Midwest Region is slated for 23 nights of competition in 2010 at ten different tracks throughout Nebraska and the surrounding areas of Missouri, South Dakota and Iowa. In its 19th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing, the American Sprint Car Series brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada.

On Saturday night, night two of racing action continues when KMMO Radio race night opens the weekly CMS race season along with Boy Scout Troops being honored. Boys Scouts will be recognized during the Saturday night program as part of their on-going 100 years of scouting celebration. Contact your local scout leaders or Susan Walls for ticket details.

Which driver will be the one to visit Waterloo Victory Lane for the first time? The opening night of competition includes the ‘mighty’ modifieds, ULMA late models, street stocks, and b-modifieds on Saturday evening. The pit gates open both nights at 4:30 p.m. with grandstand admission opening at 5. Hot-laps will be underway at 7 and racing begins at 7:30.

Primitive camping is permitted at Central Missouri Speedway; however, there is no dump station or hookups. Please call Susan Walls at (816 229-1338) for questions regarding camping at the track. For our non-camping travelers, CMS highly recommends the Comfort Inn Warrensburg Station, located just 4 miles from the track; be sure to ask for the “racer’s discount” at Warrensburg Station (660 429-4848). Additionally, CMS is affiliated with Holiday Inn Express (660 747-3000), also just 4 miles south from the speedway. Both hotel chains are located in the heart of Warrensburg near restaurants, grocery stores and additional amenities.

Be sure to keep an eye out in your favorite local newspapers this season for special CMS admission ticket coupons. Check out the latest track news and race results along with photos from John Lee of highfly-nphotos.com.at centralmissourispeedway.net. CMS is located 4 miles north of Warrensburg on Highway 13 or 12 miles south of I-70 from the Higginsville exit.
