Carnesville, Georgia – The 2nd year ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series announced today their tire rules for the 2012 season. Beginning with the season opener at Cleveland County Speedway in Lawndale, North Carolina on March 24th the following tires will be allowed for competition: Hoosier Racing Tire compounds 1300, 1350 or 1600 or American Racer Tire compounds SD44, SD46 and MD56 (NO Arts 56) ONLY. Additionally the tires will continue to be regulated via lab analysis for any chemical treatments, which are strictly forbidden. This tire rule supercedes the previous single brand tire rule.

“After talks with teams from all over the southeast, we believe that offering these options for tire brand and compound was the fairest and best possible scenario for them and for our series. Stan and I have discussed this and thought it through very carefully. We have researched and explored every avenue to ensure that we were making the most informed decision that we could possibly make. We certainly believe that this will now allow several other race teams to be able to compete with the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series that in the past may have been precluded from doing so because of their tire situation.” said Kelley Carlton ULTIMATE Series Director.

Along with lab testing at each event, tires will also be spot checked at various times during the event with a durometer to ensure that they meet the minimum hardness which will be announced at each pre-race drivers meeting. “We want to bring ULTIMATE to the next level of Super Late Model racing and I think this another big step in that direction. We already have one of the highest point funds among all regional series and we have doubled the amount of races on our schedule. We have added several contingency sponsors and we are taking these guys to some of the best racetracks in the country this year. I couldn’t be more excited or proud of what we are building.” said ULTIMATE Series Founder and CEO Stan Lester.

In addition to the 2012 tire rules ULTIMATE Officials also announced they have established a car owner’s points award. Registered car owners will earn points at each event separately from the driver-earned points. The car owner will earn 10 points for presenting a car at the event and will then earn points based upon his car’s feature finish for the event. A win would garner a point total equal to the number of cars that start the feature and will drop 1 point per position thereafter. e.g.: 24 cars start the feature 24 points are earned for a win. At the end of the season the car owner with the highest point total will become the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series Car Owner of the Year and receive a beautiful Eagle Trophy and $1000. “We wanted to be able to give a little something back to our car owners. A lot of these guys wouldn’t be able to race if not for the benevolence of a car owner and we wanted to do something special to help recognize them for their contributions as well.” Lester added.
