5. Brian Shirley
6. Roger Long
7. Mark Faust
8. Dennis Erb, Jr.
9. Justin Allgaier
10. Kevin Claycomb
11. Don O'Neal

2 More events remain for up to 2 more drivers to get guaranteed starting spots!

<B>Qualifications:</b> All race cars will qualify in time trials.

<b>Challenge of Champions Dash:</b> The top 7 in Challenge of Champions Points without a guaranteed starting position will race in a 10 lap Dash. The first four (4) from the Dash get a starting spot in the feature. Fifth, sixth and seventh in the Dash will start on the pole of the B Heats!

<b>"B" Heats:</b> Two or Three qualifying B Heats will be held for all race cars not already guaranteed into the feature. At least six, maybe up to eight, make the feature event.

<b>Consolation Race:</b> A consolation race will be held for drivers unable to make the feature through the B Heats. One driver will make the feature.

<b>Provisional:</b> The 24th and final starting position for the feature will be a provisional starting position to the highest driver in Challenge of Champions Series Points not yet qualified for the feature.

<b>"A" Heats:</b> The 24 drivers qualified for the 40 lap feature event revert back to their qualifying times to determine the lineup for three 8 car, 10 lap heats.

<b>Feature Line Up:</b> The lineup for the 40 lap feature event is determined by how you finish the "A" Heats.

<B>NOTE:</b> Anyone wrecking or having mechanical problems in a heat, can drive a replacement car in the Feature. But the driver must start in the rear, and the replacement car must have qualified and raced in a B Heat. No driver can qualify more than one car.

This race will also award National & State UMP Points.

Have to read it twice to understand it..but I think it will be an interesting night. 15 Grand to the winner!!!!

No, that means the first 7 in points that don't have a win yet.

So, if the points were over today that

Rodney Melvin
Billy Faust
Eric Smith
Chad Zobrist
Rylan Dagg
Steve Sheppard
Ed Dixon

would be in the dash. Of course there are 4 more events left so that will probably change this list!

Sounds to me like they are making a way for Dixon to make the race at his home track, because we know he is not going to win at another track and would have a hard time making it that night with the quality of cars that will be there. So they make sure there is a dash with only 7 cars, and he only has to make to 4th to get in the show.

Jimmy,
I have not gone there, but make sure these are on umpracing.com.
Dixon has made his bed for this race as he has not competed in very many of these races and has not done well in them. If more drivers like Dagg and Shirley attended more races then you could say it is setup for Dixon. This is not an I-55 event, it is a UMP event and they don't care who gets in. I-55 is just the location and has nothing to do with the rules.

Challenge of Champions Fiasco!!

Yeah right, Jack. It just so happens that one of the new owners of UMP owns I-55. Everyone on this board knows good and well that if this race were being held at Mt Vernon and Rodney Melvin was the seventh car in line for the non-winners provisional, this board would have been lit up by now. As far as I know, only 3 drivers have shown their support and attended every series race so far (Shirley, Dagg, and Zobrist) and now, with this rules change, two of them may not make the big race. Gee, way to treat those who show their support for your series. Also nice to completely change the rules after 16 events of a 20 race series have been run. Just my humble opinion.

I agree with you banker, all along it was those that have won a feature, and if there were multiple wins by that person, it would become a points issue for drivers to receive automatic berths. Therefore making more attractive for the racer who does not win a feature but takes the time and money to follow the series to be rewarded for his loyalty. I wonder if Dixon was 1st in points with three feature wins if they would be following this format. I think not. Regardless if he does not make it using this format they will probably add a promoters option. It must be nice to be KING!!!

This was faxed to me today from UMP!

First off, why the change of dates? I'm doing my rain dance because I have tix to the Cup race in KC the same weekend. Hope it pours in Pevely on October 3 & 4!! I'm just happy I will be at the Fall National race.

I have to question the new "format" as well. Especially when as stated, some of those in the top 4 or 5 were pretty a lock in the feature. Now they still have to race their way in.

The date change was strictly UMP's decision.

The race format hasn't really changed. If you read the format closely, 5 of the top 7 in points that don't have a win, will get into the feature.
