Evansville, IN (July 14, 2003) The UMP Challenge of Champions Series for Late Models will fire up to contend the second half of the season with a visit on Monday night, July 21 to Highland Speedway in Highland, IL.

The series has been inactive during the four week UMP Summer Nationals to allow drivers an opportunity to participate fully in those events.

The Highland race is a Gold Purse attraction promissing the highest payoff thus far this season. It is the first of four $5,000 to win events scheduled over the next three weeks. Overall the action is going to be intense with seven races in just fourteen days.

Tri-State Speedway will host the Challenge of Champions on July 27th paying $2,000 to win. It will be the first visit for the touring late model group to the Haubstadt oval.

That appearance will lead drivers into a week of action with stops at Terre Haute(Tuesday), I-55 Raceway(Wednesday), Farmer City Raceway(Friday), Fairbury American Legion Speedway(Saturday) and a return visit to Vermilion County Speedway at Danville, IL on Sunday, August 3rd.

So far in 2003, seven of the eight scheduled races have been held. Randy Korte now leads Terry English in the Challenge of Champions points. One hundred and twenty different late model drivers from seven states have participated in this new series. Feature victories have allowed Terry English, Randy Korte, Shannon Babb, Brian Shirley and Dennis Erb, Jr. to earn starting spots for the year-end Extravaganza at I-55 Raceway on September 27th. Fifteen guaranteed starting spots for this $15,000 to win feature remain to be filled as the schedule unfolds.
