Back in June of 2005, the UMP Summer Nationals rolled into the Clarksville StormPay.com Speedway in Clarksville, Tennessee and it was Shannon Babb of Mowequa, Illinois picking up the $6,000 victory over Dennis Erb Jr., Billy Drake, Rodney Melvin, Brian Shirley, Jimmy Mars, Wendell Wallace, Darren Miller, Mark Voigt, and Jay Brinkley.
This year’s Summer Nationals event will be a little bit different. First off will be the date. In the past the Summer Nationals have held Wednesday events and this year the event will be on Saturday Night June 24. This will be stop number 9 on the 2006 tour with $10,000 going to the winner of the event. Billy Moyer Sr. of Batesville, Arkansas leads the Summer Nationals pack with 60 feature event wins making him the all-time leading race winner.
Shannon Babb, who was last year’s event winner, led the Series at the end of the season by taking home the Championship and prize money to go along with it.
This year, the Summer Nationals Champion will receive $30,000.00 at the end of the 29 races which are held in 30 days. Over $800,000.00 in prize money will be up for grabs in the 2006 tour as the Dirt Motorsports sanctioned UMP Summer Nationals rolls into the Clarksville StormPay.com Speedway to be apart of the most Famous Series in Dirt Late Model Racing. The stars of the Summer Nationals will have to hold off the challenges of the Clarksville Boys which include Tony Albright of Clarksville, Tennessee, Rusty Griffaw of Festus, Missouri, Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Kentucky, Jarryd Holshouser of Hollybush, Kentucky, along with Duke Wright, Richard and Gary Frost and the rest of the Clarksville regulars.
Adult General Admission for this event will be $25.00 and Adult Pit Passes are $35.00. The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Crate Late Models will have the night off and the rest of the support divisions will be in action competing in A-Features only. A special Fireworks show courtesy of Allen’s Fireworks will be held during the running of the Summer Nationals event. A complete show for the UMP Super Late Models will see Time Trials, the Dash, Heat Races, the B-Mains, and the $10,000 A-Main event.
