Upper Iowa Speedway to host July 29 JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour show

DECORAH, Iowa (July 23) – IMCA Modifieds return to the northeast corner of the state next Thursday, July 29, when Upper Iowa Speedway hosts the sixth event of the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour.

The main event pays $1,000 to win and a minimum of $125 to start. Pit gates at Decorah open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow.

Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, with kids 11 and under admitted free. Pit passes are $25.

Rich Smith of Davenport is the new series point leader, after running sixth in the Tuesday night feature at Fayette County Speedway. Mike Jergens of Plover is now second, with Richie Gustin Jr. of Gilman, Josh Foster of Montrose and Mark Schulte of Delhi rounding out the top five.

Gustin is the top driver in point standings for IMCA’s ButlerBuilt North Central Region and is currently eighth in the national point race. Jergens is the leading rookie contender in the region. Previous series point leader Foster won two of the first five tour events but was absent from the field at West Union because of injuries sustained in a non-racing accident.

Darin Duffy of Hazleton, Gustin and Jeff Waterman of Quincy, Ill. also own Hawkeye Dirt Tour trophies thus far.

IMCA national, regional and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded for the show at Decorah, where local stock car and hobby stock classes complete the Weis Buick sponsored program.
