Victor Lee Victorious in 1st Annual Spring Showdown at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY- May 24, 2013- Ponderosa Speedway would present the inaugural running of the Spring Showdown on Friday evening and Victor Lee of Danville, KY would take the win in the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model main event and earn $3,000 for his efforts. The Smith Automotive Machine Shop FASTRAK Late Models also ran an $800 to win special and Tyler Allen of Columbus, IN would pick up his first win of the season. Other feature winners for the evening included Jimmy Payne of Glasgow, KY in Bluegrass Drug Store Modifieds, Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY in D&D Pallet Recyclers Sportsman, and Adam Gregory of Gray, KY in Airport Road Salvage Yard Four Cylinders.

The 40 lap, $3,000 to win Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model main event would see Michael Chilton take the initial race lead, with Victor Lee in hot pursuit, followed by Brad Neat, Justin Rattliff, and Greg Johnson. The front duo of Chilton and Lee would pull away a bit from Neat and started lapping slower traffic on lap 6. Lee would turn up the heat on Chilton for the lead and the pair would race side-by-side for the top spot on lap 12 in heavy traffic. A caution for debris on lap 14 would slow the action and when action resumed, Chilton and Lee would again pull away, while Johnson got by Rattliff for fourth and would take third from Neat on lap 17. Lap 19 would see Dustin Linville get by Rattliff to make his way into the top five, while Johnson began to run down the leaders. However, Johnson’s run would go sour when he clipped a tire barrier entering turn one battling Lee for second and would spin and be contacted by fifth place Linville, ending both drivers night. The final restart would see Chilton and Lee again motor away and catch backmarkers and Lee would use a lapped car for a pick exiting turn two and take the race lead from Chilton on lap 35. Lee would lead the remainder of the way and pick up the win aboard the Kevin Ison owned JAACO Mining/Xtreme Style Signs and Screenprinting/JAY Construction and Restoration/Quality Auto and Truck Accessories/ Hatcher’s Auto Sales/French Homes/Wild Cody’s Gun and Ammo/Fire Department Service and Supply/Carrier’s Garage/Schaeffer’s Racing Oil sponsored #4 Revelution Chassis powered by a Day’s Racing Engine. Chilton would take second, with Neat finishing third. Rattliff would come home fourth, while Mike Jewell completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten were Chris Combs, David Webb, Jeremy Hines, Jeff Watson, and Johnny Wheeler. Twenty-two entries saw Michael Chilton be the Bob Allen Motor Mall top qualifier at 13.570 seconds, while Country 100.9 MIKE FM heats were won by Chilton, Lee, and Rattliff.

The Smith Automotive Machine Shop FASTRAK Late Model feature would see Todd Coffman lead the first 9 laps of the 20 lap main event until a flat right-rear tire slowed his night and turned the lead over to Tyler Allen. Allen would lead the remaining laps of the feature contest and pick up the $800 payday in the seat of the Tim and Kelly Waggoner owned T&K Trucking/Sign-O-Rama/Schaeffer’s Photos and Custom Tees/Advantage Heating and Cooling/Travis Kern Race Engines/Wiamke Racing Associates/Wedan Street and Performance sponsored #T1 MasterSbilt Race Car powered by GM604 Crate engine. Coffman would recover from his flat tire to finish second, while Zane Powell, Jake Henry, and Gary Yeager completed the top five. Eight entries saw Coffman be the Bob Allen Motor Mall top qualifier at 14.040 seconds and Coffman also won the Colston Paving heat.

The Bluegrass Drug Store Modified feature contest would see Dion Benningfield lead the first three circuits of the event before Tommy Bailey took the top spot on lap 4. Jimmy Payne would eventually take second and battle with Bailey for the race lead and take the position with a turn four slidejob pass on lap 13. Payne would pull away a bit in the remaining laps to take the victory in the Richard Harlow owned Maximum Energy Development/Barren River Pest Control/Paintless Dent Repair/Diamond Auto Collision/Young’s Barber Shop sponsored #K1 Bandit Race Car powered by a Niebel Race Engine. Benji Lee would get by Bailey in the waning laps to take second, with Bailey finishing third. Michael England would finish fourth, while Benningfield nipped Elliott Despain at the line to finish fifth. The rest of the top ten behind Despain were Josh Rice, Tommy Gregory, Jacoby Hines, and Tim Potts. Twenty-one entries saw Payne as the Bob Allen Motor Mall top qualifier at 14.647 seconds, while Inter County Energy heat wins fell to Bailey, Benningfield, and England.

Glen Hounshell, Jr. would lead all 15 laps in taking the victory in the D&D Pallet Recyclers Sportsman main event behind the wheel of his Wayne Bowen Racing Supply/R&R Builders/Madison Windows/ Lanham Scrap and Metal/Jennings Do It Best/V.C. Verlron’s Contracting/Central Kentucky Sheet Metal/PEECO sponsored #20 Chevy Camaro SS. Jeremy Howard would collect runner-up honors, while Derek Bottoms would nip Donnie Sullivan for third, with David Freeman finishing fifth. Eleven entries would line up by the pill draw and Northside RV heat wins were scored by Sullivan and Hounshell, Jr.

Only three entries were on hand in the Airport Road Salvage Yard Four Cylinder division and Adam Gregory would take the victory aboard his Friends of Coal/Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance sponsored #22 mount. Charles Burton would take second, while Danny Lafollette would finish third and the division only ran a feature event.
